US ambassador pitches Namibia to American investors

United States ambassador to Namibia John Giordano is pitching Namibia’s energy, mining and infrastructure opportunities to American investors.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Giordano recently met government officials, corporate executives and investors in Washington, New York, Philadelphia, Singapore, Johannesburg and Cape Town to strengthen commercial ties and attract private investment.

Speaking at African Energy Week in Cape Town, he says American companies, technology and capital could help Namibia move from oil discoveries to production.

“The next era of energy will not belong to whoever finds the most oil. It will belong to those who connect resources to infrastructure, infrastructure to industry, and industry to opportunity,” he says.

In New York, Giordano joined president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and business leaders at the US–Namibia Presidential Roundtable to discuss investment, infrastructure and trade.

He spoke on Namibia’s potential to strengthen critical mineral supply chains during engagements in Washington.

Giordano says cooperation between American technology companies, Asian investors and Africa’s resource-rich economies could create new commercial opportunities.

His investment drive targets energy, critical minerals, technology and industrial development.

However, the ambassador’s statement did not disclose the value of investments secured or specific deals concluded during the engagements.

He says he would continue connecting American businesses with Namibian stakeholders to advance commercial opportunities.
