TWO young adult men were arrested at Walvis Bay this past week after it was reported to Police that they had been regularly sleeping with two underage girls at their home in the town’s Kuisebmond area.
The two men, aged 22 and 23, were taken into custody over the weekend.
The charges faced by the two specifically deal with an incident or number of incidents that occurred at the men’s home in Kuisebmond’s 11th Avenue between New Year’s Eve and January 3.
The girls in question are aged 13 and 15.
The younger of the two suspects was arrested and charged with the rape of the younger girl, while the older suspect is accused of statutory rape of his 15-year-old girlfriend.
Police confirmed the incident earlier this week.
According to sources at the town, the families of the two victims had known that their children had been involved with adult lovers, but only went to the Police after the children ‘overstayed at their (suspects’) home’ on the said dates.
‘I don’t know, some people don’t seem to understand our laws,’ one source stated.
The age of sexual consent in Namibia is 16 years.
