WORLD renowned surrealist Namibian artist Koos van Ellinckhuijzen died at Swakopmund yesterday at the age of 74.
“Uncle Koos was an icon. He was respected by so many people. He will be missed,” said long-time friend and neighbour Linda Louw to The Namibian. The late Ellinckhuijzen was most noted for his work on Namibian and South West African postage stamps. He has exhibited in both Namibia and the USA. Adelheid Lilienthal, in ‘Art in Namibia’, noted the scientific accuracy of his designs, their clean lines and his use of watercolour techniques.
According to Louw, who is also a famous artist and photographer, the deceased apparently has no family in Namibia. “We are busy organising everything. The family are on their way (from outside Namibia),” she said.
