UNAM and African Stars will meet in the final of the 2018 Debmarine Namibia Cup after their semifinals wins over Black Africa and Civics respectively on Saturday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Unam and Stars will contest the second final of the Debmarine Namibia Cup on 19 May, at a venue still to be determined by the organizing committee of the competition.
Unam played in the first semifinal match at a cool Sam Nujoma Stadium, taking on Black Africa and after a goalless first, it was Black Africa substitute Mccarthey Naweseb who broke the deadlock with a fine finish from close range.
With BA seemingly heading for victory, Tara Katupose headed Unam back into the contest and the match went into extra time.
The two sides were more cautious in the extra 30 minutes and after 120 minutes of exciting football, the match had to be decided on a penalty shoot-out.
Emilio Martin and Derl Goagoseb scored for BA to keep them alive before Brave Warriors defender Vitapi Ngaruka missed his kick to give Unam the advantage.
Unam captain Heini Isaacks, Veno Tjikundi, Man of the Match, Marcel Papama, Lebbeus Mwatilefu and Tara Katupose scored for Unam, while Emilio Martin, Derl Goagoseb and Wendell Rudath scored for BA, while Vitapi Ngaruka missed his spot kick for BA, to give Unam a 5-3 victory.
In the second match of the day, Civics and African Stars locked horns for a place in the final to face Unam.
Edwin Korukuve gave Stars the lead early on, but Civics equalised just before halftime when striker Gunzu Salazar bundled the ball home past the hapless Ratanda Mbazuvara in Stars’ goal.
With the two sides locked at 1-1, the match went into extra time before Brave Warriors captain Ronald Ketjijere produced the killer blow that sent Stars through to the final.
Civics conceded a corner kick and after they failed to clear their line, the ball fell kindly to Ketjijere who showed class and technique as he thundered a shot just under the crossbar with two minutes remaining to break the Civilians’ hearts.
Donald Geiseb of Civics walked away with the Man of the Match accolade and was inconsolable when he received it from Roger Kambatuku of the NFA.
