Two more new H1N1 cases

TWO more cases of the H1N1 flu, commonly known as ‘swine flu’, have been confirmed in Namibia, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 62.

The two cases are of a one-year-old boy in Windhoek, and a young adult man in Tsumeb.The majority of people who tested positive for the flu have recovered well, with one death in Oshikango having been confirmed as H1N1-related.In total, over 363 swabs have been sent to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) in South Africa for testing, 267 of which returned negative. The NICD rejected four and lost 12 samples, and results for 18 tests are still being awaited.In its latest global situation update, the World Health Organisation on Friday reported that over 296 471 cases of the flu have been laboratory confirmed, while at least 3 486 flu-related deaths have resulted from the global pandemic.
