Tutorial college pupils scoopN$131 000 in cash, prizes

ACING IT … Top-performing pupils from Elite Tutorial College at its Omafo campus during the college’s awards ceremony over the weekend.

With it’s commitment to youth empowerment and academic excellence, Elite Tutorial College has injected over N$131 000 in prizes and cash into its fourth annual awards ceremony.

The award ceremonies held at the college’s Omafo and Ondangwa campuses over the weekend honoured 98 top-performing pupils of the class of 2024.

Prizes included eight brand-new laptops for gold category achievers, N$1 500 each to four silver achievers, and N$750 in cash for 82 pupils who excelled with A symbols in single subjects.

“These awards are our way of showing pupils there is a reward for effort,” a college representative says.

“We want to foster a culture of excellence and recognition and reward.”

Among the top performers is Lee-Ann Danises, who attained A* symbols in four subjects.

“I wanted to show myself that I could do my best. Having targets and sticking to them really tested me,” she says.

Danises says she had to overcome obstacles such as long nights and self-doubt through conscientious studying habits and positivity.

Niklaus Salatius, another top performer, scored two A*s and two As.

“I didn’t want to regret not giving my best. That kept me going,” he says.

Salatius emphasises self-discipline, praying, and winning small battles.

His advice to his peers is: “Believe in yourself, stay focused, ask for help, and track your progress. A 1% improvement every day still counts.”

Among the pupils at Omafo campus were Shipena Andreas (A* in mathematics and A in physics) and Handjene Fredrick (A* in mathematics and A in development studies).

Elite Tutorial College managing director Apros Tendaupenyu says the college has incurred over N$131 000 in award ceremonies celebrating pupils’ determination and resilience this year.

“This is not about celebrating brilliant grades, it’s about celebrating effort and progress,” he says.

“Top performers deserve to be recognised and celebrated.”

He says the awards send a message of a culture of hope and redemption.

“These ceremonies instil pride, stimulate motivation, and honour each pupil’s journey,” he says.

The awards were created to motivate pupils and to promote academic transformation during the year 2017.

The college offers pupils who originally did not achieve Ordinary Level standards a second chance by providing individual tutoring, mentorship, and guidance.

As part of a new initiative called ‘Life After Elite Tutorial College’, the college will be visiting selected tertiary institutions to reconnect with former pupils who are currently enrolled at higher education institutions.
