Treza Cooper Debuts

Treza Cooper is ready to ignite the world with her debut EP, ‘Gotta Eat Too’.

The singer’s voice is instantly recognisable from stints on radio, as well as serenading audiences on various stages – most notably the Song Night stage.

Last year, Cooper was named Song Night ambassador, cementing her place on stage.

In 2017, the songstress represented Namibia at the South African Championship of Performing Arts, walking away with the overall trophy in her age category (25 to 29) and two medals.

“I started singing from a really young age. Mostly just making a whole lot of noise, because little Treza couldn’t quite hit those notes yet,” she says.

In high school she joined the school choir and started performing at talent shows, which laid the foundation for the singer she is today, she says.

Cooper was influenced by the R&B sounds of Brandy, Mariah Carey and Usher, who inspired the direction her debut project is going for.

“As a young girl I was fascinated by this genre – I guess this is where my love for R&B was born.”

Cooper’s upcoming EP is for lovers and definitely PG-rated, she says.

“[It] basically touches a lot on women, intimacy in the bedroom, and being respected and loved, just as men want.”

Many may think the project is long overdue, but the singer says taking the time to be conscientious about what you create is crucial.

“I’ve been meaning to drop something like this for a while, but was just not in the right state of mind. This year, I decided it was time since I’ve finally discovered my sound. Working with the right people was a huge plus,” she says.

Last week Cooper teased a preview of the single ‘How You Want It’, which is dropping today, on social media.

Sean Kamati commended the song’s “hotness”, while Priscilla the Namibian Dessert Queen expressed her anticipation.

The single is a strong lead for Cooper with its international quality and appeal, predicting an entertaining album.

It was written and produced by Jaleel, who Cooper says working with was a breeze.

“We have another collaboration on the EP; super excited about it.”

Despite financial challenges during the recording of the EP, Cooper guarantees lekker vibes.

“I love singing, and with this EP, I explore my voice a little more.”
