A school girl using a Top Score instant porridge bag as a schoolbag has inspired the brand to launch a one-day tournament and provide school supplies to underprivileged pupils.

The pupil from Naiti Combined School at Okalongo in the Omusati region was spotted by the company when she used the company’s packaging to carry her books and stationery to and from school.

The inaugural Instant Futures Tournament will be officially launched at Ramblers Stadium on Saturday.

“We decided to support this initiative by giving children who are less fortunate schoolbags and stationery for a brighter future,” Top Score brand manager Diego Tayala told Desert FM this week.

“We believe education is the greatest equaliser. We started extending it to the boys and girls of the future by trying to help and bringing them into the Top Score culture,” he said.

“In doing so, we decided to do a one-day tournament for these children.”

Tayala said the Instant Futures Tournament will cater for children in the under-7 to under-11 age groups.

“The tournament will feature 10 players per age group, and is expected to start at 08h00 and conclude at 18h00 with a prize-giving ceremony to follow after the final matches.

“It is a social tournament basically just to close off the year for the children. Each participating child will be given a medal, among many other activities scheduled for the day,” he said.

Naiti Combined School is faced with several challenges and is seeking community support.

The school lacks classrooms, an administration block and desks.

In response to these needs, the school and the community have received donations and are organising fundraising events for specific projects
