In the spirit of past happenings which may or may not have been psychologically scarring, I decided to write a fictional play aimed at… someone who may or may not read this in the future.
And so it begins.
The scene is at a bar. Hip-hop music is blasting from the speakers indoors, but due to a current heatwave, most people are enjoying the bliss of the outdoors.
There’s cigarette smoke in the air mashed together with alcoholic breath of over 50 people which should say a lot. Embracing a night of storytelling by upbeat individuals, Drunken Diana spots *him* in a crowd and carelessly stumbles right into his arms.
Drunken Diana (D): Whoops! I’m sorry, I didn’t see you there. Hi.
The Forgotten (TF): Hey beautiful, how are you?
: What do you call forgetting about your problems? Good or bad?
: I’d say good. And it looks like you’re having all the fun.
: This is not… nooo, this is not fun, I promise you it’s not. But… but let me tell you this. It’s a party whenever I’m around! *cackles senselessly*
: *amused* Did you come here alone?
: Me? No! I’m never alone.
The sadness kicks in when poor Diana realises that her life is a lonely lie and she’s trying to make herself feel better. Somehow, this jump-starts her emotions and suddenly being here is pointless. She blinks a couple of times and figures the world is not swaying back and forth any more, but she’s actually mustered up the courage to speak to her crush of two years, who was supposed to be forgotten already.
: I, uh, you’re not drinking anything?
: Eventually. Nothing alcoholic, though.
: I see.
: Take some shots with me.
: But you just said…?
: Come on. Let’s do it. Or is Red Bull too strong for you?
: You want to take shots of… Red Bull?
: Something has to take away your sorrows, right?
Diana has a facial expression that mimics the feeling when a 1,4 GB movie has finally finished downloading. They’re nervously excited. Or something like that. It doesn’t take long before the ‘couple’ finds a secluded area where they can be seen, but vaguely.
On the brink of soberness, Diana is overwhelmed by joy because she can think straight compared to 15 minutes ago. ‘The Forgotten’, however, pours out the tequila into the ground and replaces it with Red Bull.
: A couple that takes shots together stays together.
: *laughs* OK. If anything happens to me – like if I can’t think well enough or make any sensible decisions – I’m going to blame you.
: *returns the most beautiful laugh ever* Nothing will happen to you while I am here.
: Let’s do it. Countdown?
: Cheers!
: Three. Two. One!
And down go the energy drinks, to their last drop.
