ANITA Tjombe launched her Iron Lady Promotions plus a boxing magazine in Windhoek on Thursday.
Tjombe said the launch was designed to give motivation and belief to all boxers in the country. According to Namibia’s only female promoter, Iron Lady Promotions will see to it that fighters are rewarded justly for their exertions. This, she believes, will make boxing the most popular sport in the country. ‘I feel that boxers in Namibia have been neglected for too long,’ Tjombe, the ambitious former manager of two-time world champion Harry Simon, said.’I have seen so much talent which currently is under-exposed or not recognised. Boxers in other parts of the world reap rich rewards for their efforts in the ring.’The TKO Namibia magazine, first of its kind in the country, will be published once a month and will focus on local boxing.’It will give exclusive coverage to our boxers, making sure they are given maximum exposure in Namibia, Africa and indeed the whole world,’ said Tjombe. Iron Lady Promotions plans to host its first event on October 22 in Windhoek, featuring its newly acquired boxers. Lightweight fighter Albinu ‘Danny Boy’ Felesianu is set to highlight the event. Other fighters who have signed up are Lukas ‘Demolisher’ Ndafoluma, Anthony ‘Punisher’ Jarman, David ‘Washee’ Egumbo, and Leonard Ipumbu. ‘These are all very good fighters. Some of them who will fight as professionals for the first time,’ Tjombe said. – sheefeni@namibian.com.na
