Tjingaveta suffer TKO

MARTIN Haikali caused a major upset on Saturday night when he beat Jatoorora Tjingavete with a technical knockout in the sixth round to become the new African WBO lightweight champion.

Haikali was roped in as a replacement for Wandile Mseleku of South Africa who withdrew without any reason at the last minute, but despite the short notice, Haikali rose to the occasion with a brilliant performance.A right hook put Tjingavete down and although he managed to beat the count, he was clearly unsteady on his feet.Haikali once again lay into him on the ropes, and with Tjingavete offering no resistance, referee Timo Haikonda stepped in to stop the fight, to the delight of Haikali and his helpers, who hoisted their new champion on their shoulders and paraded him around the ring.In a flyweight bout, Abmerk Shindjuu beat Pardon Katerera of Zimbabwe on a second round knockout. In a lightweight bout, Samuel Kapapu was a convincing winner on points over Lovemore Moyo of Zimbabwe. In a junior featherweight fight, Immanuel Naindjala beat Matheus Kaandala on a unanimous points decision over four roundsPaulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses continued his preparations for his WBA lightweight world title defence against Mexico’s Marco Antonio Barrera in January, with an exhibition fight against five highly rated opponents.Moses impressed with his razor-sharp jab, while he displayed a fast hand speed with some quick combinations and showed a high level of fitness and still maintained a high work rate overall. www.namibiasport.com.na
