ALARICKY Kamongwa (32) describes life as a journey of ups and downs.
The young businessman hails from a very vulnerable background and says he has been through a lot in life.
However, he's finally starting to reap the rewards of his hard work.
“I have always strived for success. If we focus and are more determined we will persevere.”
Kamongwa has been running a bar and car wash at Eenhana since July 2021.
“This was at a time when life was at its most upside down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. I just had to take the risk because the drive was in me.
“Business has been going well, I have employed two other young people who are able to financially help themselves and their families,” says Kamongwa.
“As a young man I was rejected by my family members, at the time I was pursing my studies at the then Polytechnic of Namibia. I was raised by a single mother because my father died early on in life.
“I had to step up and be a man in order to help my mother. While studying I had to walk long distances from Katutura to university and back again, but I completed my degree in business management,” he says.
Despite having a degree, life did not turn out to be a bed of roses where employment was concerned.
“I soon realised getting a job was turning out to be a daunting experience. This is what drove me to return home to Eenhana, to see what I could do for myself instead of sitting around waiting for employment, which is very stressful.
“I opened my two businesses through hard work and savings. I am also an employer of high school graduates.
“It's very challenging to run a business but one has to be tough. You find that some customers will take items on credit and take very long to pay or even just disappear without paying. I, however, would like to urge fellow young people to stay focused and never give up when facing life challenges. Things can turn for the better.”
