Theo Mberirua appointed to pilot AirNam

THE board of directors of Air Namibia has appointed former Standard Bank Namibia and Telecom Namibia chief executive Theo Mberirua as the airline’s interim chief executive officer with effect from 13 July.

This is pending the appointment of a substantive chief executive officer (CEO) for the beleaguered state-owned airline.

Mberirua takes over from Elia Erastus, who has been acting as the struggling airline’s chief executive since early this year.

In a statement, the board said Mberirua is a seasoned corporate executive, having held leadership roles at a number of leading private and public sector organisations in Namibia, notably Telecom Namibia, Standard Bank Namibia and Bidvest. Mberirua is the current chairperson of the board of directors of MTC.

He holds a master’s degree in business administration from the City University of New York.

“The Board would also like to congratulate Mr Mberirua on his appointment and, at the same time, thank the outgoing acting CEO Mr Elia Erastus for having steered the ship during the challenging period,” the board said.
