Through a bit of research, I’ve discovered a few uncomfortable truths about love, romance and all the nice things we can’t have.
Sure, we all want that house and the picture perfect family, but question is, are we going to get it all?
We dream a lot, because as they say, you should speak things into existence, but the same plan is not written in the stars for all of us.
This is why I’m here to gently let you down and share the brutal truth with you. No, really. Some of you need to hear this.
With that said, here’s what’s probably not in store for us:
Your first love is not always going to be your life partner.
I know, we all fall in love at some stage and think that the world is never the same again because all we see is happiness. Like Drake said “I know they say the first love is the sweetest. But that first cut is the deepest…” and it’s true.
But there’s a part of you that will probably always feel something for your first love, even if marriage is not on the cards for you.
I read somewhere that this ‘first love’ gets you so bad that you will never love anyone else the way you loved them, but you won’t always end up together. Now if that isn’t sad, I don’t know what is.
Divorce is real and it’s scary.
You may have seen couples you ‘always thought would be together’ divorcing. And we hear them in the news every week.
Mary J Blige broke up with her husband Martin ‘Kendu’ Isaacs after 12 years of marriage.
Paula Patton broke up with Robin after being together for 23 years, including eight years of marriage.
Like I said. It’s scary.
So when you eventually decide to take that step, think carefully about it and be sure that the person you’re saying ‘I do’ to is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. That’s all there is to it.
Don’t get married because of money, business or some other hidden agenda. Just love, man.
We are not all going to be celebrities or multi-millionaires who can buy homes in whichever country we wish.
Sadly. And no, we’re not all going to be surprised by our partners with million dollar cars on our birthdays, like Tyga did for Kylie Jenner.
I mean, it’s a sweet gesture, but let’s face the reality here. In our beloved country of sand and sun, the likelihood of finding an Audi R8 outside your door is probably at 10%. Or less, the figures are tricky.
Even the chance of being bought a fancy house in Ludwigsdorf is as possible as finding a diamond on the floor of a shopping centre. See what I mean?
But remember, these are just theories of everything. Life has no formula and anything is possible for anyone. All we have to do is fight for our dreams to come true.
If you want to drive that Lamborghini and be the first person in Namibia to own it, then go for it. Work hard, make good decisions, get with the right people and build something great.
Because that’s just us – Namibians make things happen for themselves even if we don’t know what’s written in the cards for us.
A British millionaire is probably on his way to Nam where he’ll fall in love with you. Who knows? What if your destiny is not even having a mansion in Nam but something better in another country?
So don’t worry too much about it and live your best life!
