The Plight Of Our Youth

The Plight Of Our Youth

NAMIBIAN youth are in a difficult situation just like young cattle closed in a farm without water and grass. This situation is getting worse due to the fact that the government leaders do not care about their suffering.

The leaders of tomorrow live in the shadow of poverty and unemployment and the national resources cannot reach them because the top leaders of the government use those resources to enrich themselves through corruption. Now, many youth depend on the pensions of elderly people as there is no means to make a living. Government leaders spend money on useless things like: buying machines for spying as well as giving N$42 million for the office of the former President, instead of addressing youth problems in the first place. His pension package was huge too.Furthermore, an amount of more than N$ 60 million was used for a film which was made in USA (an ‘imperialist’ country!) ‘Where Others Wavered’ was done without consideration to the suffering of all citizens. Why are there only a few people enjoying a cake of independence? Namibia’s independence was brought about by all Namibians, both outside and inside Namibia, but now there is only a small group of the government top leaders that ‘swim’ in the sea of millions while thousands of people live in poverty. Some beautiful girls of this ‘land of the brave’ are forced by the current situation to use their own bodies in order to get income as there is no means to make a living.President Pohamba promised to root out corruption but it is shameful to hear that someone who is implicated in the missing in Social Security Commission’s millions is about to return into public office. There are many others. I don’t think President Pohamba will be able to fight corruption in his second term because he has failed to make any tangible change in his first term.Namibia is a rich country but its wealth is not shared equally among its citizens because government top leaders are selfish, greedy and corrupted. The Government also exploited poor people during the construction of railway in the north. Regional councillors in the north created weeding jobs for the youth during the rainy season, but a youth cannot buy an ox, a bed or even a goat from this work. The President, Ministers and councillors must be blamed for this problem of poverty and unemployment because they are given responsibility by the electorate to solve those problems. Why does Government have money that is being stolen while there is none to create jobs for youth? We hear daily of government leaders involved in corruption cases amounting to millions of dollars. In conclusion, should we let government leaders to loot our country because they liberated it? Were they alone in the struggle? It is a time to influence and change the composition of the government by replacing wrong leaders with right leaders through elections. Open your mind, youth, vote for change! Remember that a hungry youth is an angry youth. It is time for new ideas. Sem NamhilaVia e-mailNote: This letter has been shortened.
