Everyone is preaching about “new year, new me”: while I am just here trying to figure out how to relieve the drought in my bank account, caused by poor cash rain during the festive season.
I hate the festive season, not hate it as in I wish it never occurred but hate it because it always empties my bank account like there’s no tomorrow.
On second thought, I don’t blame the festive season for my black lifeless account. Yes, it’s lifeless for it holds no capacity to support my endless lists of wants and more wants. I wish to blame the government but I did not even send it a Merry Christmas message, so in absence of finding anyone or anything to blame, I blame myself.
I blame my lack of planning. You have to have a plan. Everyone’s got to have a plan. Having no plan is like leaving home not knowing where you are going. After all, a plan is like a map, it’s there to guide you.
Without a plan, the only thing there to guide you are your thoughts, and well, you know how our thoughts work sometimes: The eyes see something juicy through those clear deceiving shop windows and the thoughts automatically change from just passing by to ‘I’ve got have that’, meaning you can’t trust your thoughts to guide you, unless you are an expert in controlling them.
So, it’s 2017, it’s “new year, new you”, right? Well, if it’s that, know that you can’t make that happen without a plan. Having a plan clearly indicates that you know what you have in store for this year. It shows that you are thinking about your life, not just sitting with your arms crossed waiting for surprises to fall from the sky.
Work out what it is that you want to do or achieve this year, plan it and work on it. It’s no good setting resolutions and drawing up plans and storing them untouched in a cool, dry place for the whole year and when December comes, you start disturbing the universe peace with your “2017 was such a bad year, 2018 come already”.
It is not the universe that determines how you should be, it’s all in your hands to handle things, in your mind to think well, on your legs to carry you wherever you want to go and on your feet to walk you wherever you want to go this year!
It’s all really up to you to be aware of what you want and what you are doing. There is no need to draw up a plan thicker than a Bible, make it simple and attainable, and make sure you monitor your performance daily or weekly.
Trust your gut that if you do that, you will end up wishing this year had 15 or 20 months at the end of it.
Sometimes we unknowingly head off down the wrong path with best motives. Not every plan works out so always have room for failure. If your alarm in the morning shows you that you set a wrong time, or your outfit for the day shows you that you did not consider the weather for that day or your plan shows you that you chose a wrong turn, just accept it and change lanes! Know that giving up at the right time is not weakness but a sign that you know exactly what is good and bad for your life.
After all, circumstances change, people change (you included) so let your plan be there to guide you.
With a bunch of our daily activities, and wrong associations perhaps, it’s so easy to forget what we are here for. You can easily get lost, but having your awesome map, which is your plan, it’s easy to remember your way back home.
Imagine your year starts off awesomely and boom! Life pours hot coffee on you, or it squeezes lemon in your eyes and your sight becomes blur; you cry and curse but finally manage to wash the lemon out of eyes; having your good plan, you will be able to clearly remember where you were and you can start from there. But having no plan, you will be lost not knowing where to head. You will probably just download some life quotes, which is totally sad.
Don’t dwell on the past and don’t live in the future and don’t drown in dreams, just live here, live now in this great moment but not without a plan! Great year ahead, folks.
