The Namibian, Desert Radio join Round Table for ‘Winter Knights’

The Namibian and Desert Radio joined forces with Round Table Namibia on Friday in an effort to support the less privileged.

The initiative, called ‘Winter Knights’, took place in Windhoek.

The Namibian’s chief operations officer, Mark Kissler, says the collaborative effort saw media professionals take to the streets to raise funds to buy the less privileged warm winter items.

“The ‘Nights Like These Need Knights Like You’ theme aptly captures the essence of this collaborative effort,” he says.

Kissler says the project runs in Windhoek, and at Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.

The Round Table’s Winter Knights runs annually in South Africa, but also takes place in various other countries, including Namibia.

Kissler says the project was launched between 2003 and 2004.

He says last year’s total collections, including cash pledges from the corporate sector, amounted to N$740 000.

“Once we get all the money sorted, it’s going to be deposited into one bank account and distributed among the five different Round Tables in Namibia,” he says.

Kissler says blankets and non-perishable food items will then be bought and distributed among less privileged communities.

“We are focusing on children and the elderly who don’t have any means to keep warm,” he says.
