The Isuzu MU-XOnyx: Refined poweron and off the road

The MU-X Onyx from Isuzu is more than a luxury 4×4 SUV, it’s a refined, family-ready vehicle now boasting extra flair, functionality and safety features.

MU-X stands for multi-utility extreme, a name reflected in the bold red square before the ‘X’.

From the outside, the car’s updated features are more than just aesthetic.

“The air vent on the front bumper enhances both appearance and aerodynamics,” says Isuzu’s Freddie Louwrens.

At the rear, a redesigned tailgate and new trim give the illusion of a solid light bar, while a striking new Isuzu badge and spoiler add to the SUV’s bold look.

The LED lights – covering daytime running, head, tail and fog – are brighter, more energy efficient and quicker to illuminate, improving night visibility.

The 20-inch (50.8 cm) wheels and matte black mag rims are rare on a 4×4, but fit the MU-X’s design perfectly.

Inside, the minimalist dashboard doesn’t sacrifice function.

The cabin feels wider, with red stitching complementing the XT badge on the grille.

A nine-inch infotainment screen displays trip and vehicle data, from fuel consumption to 4×4 settings like 2H/4H/4L and diff lock.

The 360-degree camera system offers five views, including an underbody camera to help with tricky off-road driving. Controls are positioned for ease of use without taking eyes off the road.

Standard across the range is Isuzu’s advanced driver assistance system, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist and emergency braking.

Safety is prioritised with eight airbags – from front and side impact to full-length curtain protection – all designed to keep occupants secure in the event of a crash.

Powering the MU-X XT is a three-litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic gearbox, producing 140kW and 450Nm of torque.

Isuzu rates its fuel economy at around 8.5 litres per 100km.

All-round, the MU-X Onyx blends practicality, safety and design with performance – a bold and refined option in the luxury 4×4 space.
