Telecom Namibia (TN) yesterday onboarded new graduates, interns and apprenticeships from various regions in Namibia.
The event hosted in Windhoek saw 35 young Namibians being absorbed into the Telecom workforce.
Speaking at the event, the chief executive officer of Telecom, Stanley Shanapinda, said by strategically investing in training programmes, they ensure a skilled workforce to drive the Telecommunications company’s future success.
“These trainees will learn from experienced professionals, bridging the skills gap and ensuring continuity in key roles,” he said.
The onboarding comes in two phases: The first trainees were appointed for phase 1 in July, and will be appointed for phase 2 in September through the TN Training Centre.
During phase 1 a total of 35 trainees were onboarded and phase 2 will see 48 young Namibians being onboarded. The total for both phases is 83 trainees.
Telecom aims to create job opportunities for young Namibians, and secondly address the vacancies that are created by long-serving employees who retire.
Peter Katjavivi, the speaker of the National Assembly, who was also present at the event, highlighted the importance of collaboration in tackling unemployment.
“Like many shared national challenges, youth unemployment requires collective intervention from all of us across the national divide, the government, the public and private sectors,” Katjavivi said.
Telecom Namibia is set to spend a total of N$ 25 million on this programme.
