THE Namibia Amateur Dance Sport Association (NADSA) is gearing up for the International Dance Sport Federation Trainers Congress to be held in Windhoek in July.
There is much excitement for the upcoming congress because this will be where local ballroom and Latin-American dance instructors will be able to qualify as dance teachers on an international level.
Instructors will also have the privilege of meeting members of the Southern African Dance Sport Federation including Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Swaziland, Lesotho, South Africa, Angola, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
NADSA strives to expose Namibian dancers to the international world of dance, thereby broadening their vision and knowledge in this newly accepted form of sport. Thus, it continues to extend its invitation to other dance studios in Namibia to join, in order to strengthen its position to be also one of the major sports associations in Namibia.
NADSA was founded in July 2007 to promote and improve dance sport in Namibia. It was established in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Namibia Sports Commission and Namibia National Olympic Committee and conforms to the Rules and Regulations of the IDSF, which is automatically linked to the umbrella body of all dance sport types worldwide, the World Dance and Dance Sport Council (WDDSC).
Currently, only the dance studios of Dance Zone (ballroom & Latin-American dancing), Bohemian Magic Dance Company (belly dancing) and the Studio of Modern Dancing are recognised by the above-mentioned national, regional and international sports governing bodies.
Although dance sport is an Olympic recognised sport it is not yet an active Olympic discipline.
