Sydney Plaatjies joins Swallows

NAMIBIAN international Sydney Plaatjies joined Moroka Swallows on loan from star-studded Mamelodi Sundowns in the South African premiership late on Monday.

Moroka Swallows has explained the surprise departure of defender James Mayinga to Mamelodi Sundowns, in a deal that sees Plaatjies moving into the Birds’ in return.
‘Sydney is a good player that I have always wanted. He has come on an initial six-month contract with an option for us to buy him permanently at the end of the season. That will be based on what he does for us,’ says Swallows boss Leon Prins.
Mayinga has for long been a consistent performer at Swallows but his surprise exclusion from the first team of late confirms that the club knew that the former FC AK player had already committed himself to a pre-contract at Sundowns even though Swallows still had an option of a year renewal on his contract.
With Mayinga leaving, Sibusiso Khumalo could give Plaatjies tough competition for his berth on the left.
Swallows have also signed another left-back, Keagan Richie, from SuperSport United. Richie has spent the past six months on loan with Swallows development team.
Midfielders Thato Serland and Kagiso Mashishi along with striker Cheemon Petersen have also been signed.
