THE Swapo Party will try to rig this weekend’s elections to retain its grip on power, Republican Party president Henk Mudge said on Monday.
‘They (Swapo Party) have rigged every single election in the past,’ Mudge claimed.
He claimed that Swapo had registered Angolan nationals and people under the age of 18 as voters in its attempts to rig the elections. Addressing an RP campaign meeting at Keetmanshoop on Monday, Mudge urged the town’s residents to rally behind RP for the betterment of the ‘grassroots people’.’They (Swapo) accused me of being a socialist, but RP is slowly but surely striving towards socialism,’ he remarked.Mudge further charged that the quality of healthcare and education in the country has declined substantially since Swapo took power. ‘People became poorer than before after Independence while the unemployment rate is much higher now,’ said Mudge. Mudge added that the Swapo Party has failed to fulfil its promise of providing free education and healthcare. ‘People are fed up with Swapo Party’s empty promises,’ he added. Land grabbing in the Caprivi and Kavango regions allegedly top the Swapo Party’s hidden agenda if it wins the coming elections, according to Mudge. He accused the Swapo Party of neglecting socio-economic growth, adding that it has no clue how to boost economic development. ‘RP will stimulate the economic sectors to create jobs by setting up a development company,’ Mudge promised. ‘There is no reason for a single Namibian to be jobless if one takes the country’s population size into account,’ Mudge added. Mudge maintained that passengers boarding Air Namibia’s Airbus, allegedly piloted by an incompetent pilot, are risking their lives.’As a concerned member I have reported this scenario to President Hifikepunye Pohamba and Prime Minister Nahas Angula and opened a case with the Namibian Police through its Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga, but nothing has happened because the pilot in question is related to (founding President Sam) Nujoma,’ said Mudge. luqman@namibian.com.na
