Swapo president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged the party’s central committee members to embrace the teachings of late founding president Sam Nujoma.
She said this on Saturday at the extraordinary meeting of the central committee in Windhoek.
“I call on all of us to remember and embrace the teachings of our founding president that ‘a people united and striving for the common good of all the members of the society will always emerge victorious’. Unity is what brought us independence. Unity is what will grow our party,” she said.
The meeting is being convened as per the resolution taken by the central committee meeting held on 13 December 2024, which called for an extraordinary congress to be held to elect the party president and fill the position left vacant when late president Hage Geingob died last year.
The extraordinary congress was scheduled to take place between 28 February and 2 March, but has been postponed as Nujoma’s state funeral is scheduled for 1 March, which has been designated a public holiday.
