THE Swakopmund Municipality has launched a 30-minute DVD promoting the town as a tourist destination.
The DVD highlights tourist facilities the town has to offer, including restaurants, accommodation establishments and curio shops, and looks at township tours, quad-biking and fishing. It also highlights major developments, like the new Strand Hotel and Swakopmund Jetty projects. The DVD looks at cultural and historical landmarks and should become a sound marketing tool for the town, which annually attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world, and contributes to Namibia’s economy.’This DVD is long overdue. Swakopmund is a popular tourist destination that deserves maximum exposure and marketing,’ said the town’s Major, Germina Shitaleni. The DVD is not just aimed at potential tourists but also at potential investors, who might consider starting new developments in our town,’ she said. ‘Swakopmund does not exist in isolation hence the surrounding areas and facilities need to be included to emphasise the fact that this town is actually the hub of the west of Namibia.’She said the council would continue to nurture Swakopmund and strive to promote sustained growth. The town would maintain current standards and remain ‘a tourist destination of choice, not only nationally but internationally, too’.Conny Bergers of Legends of Africa, who produced the DVD, told The Namibian that it took some time to finish the product, which cost about N$40 000.’We had to cover seasonal aspects and make sure some of the major events in the town, like the Kuska Karnival and December holiday-activities, were also included,’ she said. The DVD is available from the Swakopmund Municipality, and will also be sold at local tourist information centres.
