Swakop to receive ambulances from Japan

SWAKOPMUND will soon become the second municipality in Namibia with its own ambulances after Windhoek.

This would greatly improve the town’s capacity to respond to medical emergencies.

Harada Hideaki, the ambassador of Japan to Namibia, will hand the ambulances over to Swakopmund mayor Louisa Kativa on 23 September.

This follows a grant contract, which was signed by the Japanese embassy and Swakopmund on 24 March.

The contract involves the reconditioning and shipment of two recycled ambulances from Japan, worth about N$250 000.

One of the ambulances was donated by the city of Kawasaki in Japan, while another was donated jointly by the cities of Daito and Shijonawate.

It will be the first time recycled vehicles within this framework are transported to Namibia.
