A cash-in-transit heist yesterday morning at Swakopmund’s Platz Am Meer Waterfront claimed the life of a security officer.
The security officer died following a shoot-out between armed suspects and security personnel.
No bystanders were harmed.
Erongo police spokesperson chief inspector Ileni Shapumba confirmed the incident yesterday while at the scene conducting investigations.
“Once the preliminary investigation is done, we will inform the public of any developments. But I can confirm that there was a robbery,” said Shapumba.
The suspects, believed to be a group of men, fled the scene in a silver seven-seater vehicle, according to police sources.
It remains unclear whether the vehicle had false registration plates.
Authorities are also uncertain about the exact amount of money stolen during the heist.
