Suzy Eises talks world tour, new music and performance with Wolfgang Haffner

SHE’S been very busy performing across the country and just as the year is winding down, Suzy Eises is gearing up for more as she prepares to launch her first album.

The captivating saxophonist is also planning her first world tour which will come right after the album is launched as well as a performance at Night Under the Stars alongside German jazz drummer Wolfgang Haffner.

Taking place under the auspices of the Goethe-Institut Namibia, Night Under the Stars will take place on Friday, 6 October at the Warehouse Theatre.

World-renowned jazz drummer Haffner and band will on that night share the stage with Eises.

Speaking to The Namibian about the show, Eises said that it is an opportunity for learning that she is excited to experience. “It’s a great opportunity for me. I’m a very big fan of jazz and in Namibia there are not a lot of jazz performers who I can look up to. As a jazz performer myself, I’m still learning and Wolfgang Haffner has been performing for years so I’m happy to learn from him,” she said.

Haffner and his band are coming to Namibia as part of their ‘Kind of Spain’ tour that combines the rhythm of traditional Spanish music with a jazz melody.

Born in 1965, Haffner started his career early and explored the drums and piano – preferring drums which untapped his creative spirit.

Eises will open Haffner’s performance at 19h30.

The saxophonist has been making a name for herself as one of Namibia’s most sought-after instrumentalists, performing at corporate, private and government functions.

Her upcoming album, she said, is a compilation of original songs. “The album is all original with no covers at all,” she said. The album will be launched in October and will be follwed by a world tour that will include countries like South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Japan, Germany, Russia as well as the USA.
