Suzy Eises’ online performance creates hype

STIRRING saxophonist Suzy Eises, who recently postponed all events where she was lined-up to perform due to cases of the coronavirus in Namibia, has instead been enjoying international attention after an online performance.

“I am on a Covid-19 lockdown at home. The best thing I could do was to postpone all of my events as they are public gatherings where people can easily be infected. I would definitely continue to encourage discontinuing gatherings until it is safe to get back into it again.

“I don’t fear anything at the moment as I have prepared for times like these with food storage, saving money and online business strategies,” she said.

With the postponement of her performances Eises has been keeping busy by posting some of her work online. Her first video, a rendition of the well-known favourite from DJ Maphorisa and Kabza de Small titled ‘Emcimbini’, received attention from Busiswa from South Africa.

“How about me and you Queen, link up after quarantine? I might have a gig or two for you. I do festivals and shebeens. You keen?”

“I decided to post the video on so many other musicians’ pages who I hoped to work with. Thus far Thandiswa Mazwai, Moonchild Sannelly, Oskido and Wizkid all responded to my video which helped me receive more than 5 000 more followers in just two days. Busiswa and Wizkid requested that I DM them and shared their desire to work with me as soon as we are able to. I am very excited and hope everything works out,” the award-winning saxophonist said.

Despite the temporary closure of entertainment venues and postponement of shows, Eises urged artists to remain positive.

“It is unfortunate and sad that musicians and some businesses are affected financially. Postponing work for the next few weeks is a downfall, but as artists we can work on music and online content to stay current.”
