AWARD-WINNING saxophonist Suzy Eises performed at the seventh Annual Titanium Awards 2022 in Cape Town, South Africa, last week, as part of her Africa/Europe tour.
She opened the evening and performed as guests had dinner while South Africa house trio Mi Casa closed the event.
The awards event, organised by the board of Healthcare Funders of Southern Africa, recognised and celebrated outstanding individuals, professionals and organisations in the healthcare sector who have made significant contributions towards solving many health challenges, especially after the emergence of Covid-19.
“I was invited by the board of healthcare funders to perform at the prestigious event after they saw my work on social media. I performed mostly original songs from my album and two South African jazz tunes. I selected these items to share my music with South Africa. I also performed songs they were familiar with,” Eises said.
Eises said she was pleased with the positive response she got from the crowd and was grateful for the opportunity to perform on such a huge platform, which allowed her to get a new audience.
“The crowd applauded after every item I performed and many guests walked up to me to say they loved my music. Some even said they had never seen a female playing saxophone. I love that I can be unique to the world. Cape Town is a beautiful city. It was great to be back. I went to high school there in Rondebosch. I learnt how to play the saxophone there,” she said.
Eises is currently back home and continues her tour next month, which will take her to Egypt, Spain and Italy.
She said she is working on an extended play, which is due for release later this year.
