Namibia’s Roger Suren and Qara Volschenk won gold medals at the SA XCO Cup 2 MTB series at Thaba Trails in Gauteng today.
Roger Suren won the u23 mens category after beating Massimiliano Ambrosini of South Africa in a sprint to the line.
Suren completed the eight-lap race in one hour 32 minutes 28 seconds, with Ambrosini finishing a second behind, while SA’s Tayne Rudling won bronze in 1:35,59.
Volschenk won gold in the sub junior girls category after finishing more than two minutes ahead of Leona Theron of South Africa. It was her second gold medal after she also won the XCC race on Saturday.
Micah Chase won a silver medal in the youth men’s category; Delsia Janse van Vuuren came fourth in the u23 women’s category; JP Lambert came fourth in the sub junior boys category; and Rosemarie Thiel came fifth in the junior women’s category.
