Sunshine Academy plans Festive Special

The MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing and Fitness Academy plans to give fans a befitting Christmas by hosting three boxing events in two weeks.

Academy founder Nestor Tobias said it was the least they could do for the nation’s unwavering support during a hectic year of boxing.

“All our boxing events have been packed to the capacity and this is because of the support we have enjoyed from the Namibian people who have shown their love for the number one sport in the country,” Tobias said.

“We had an exciting year, underpinned by so many accolades, we won a world title, staged international fights, won and successfully defended our African and international titles, our world ranking showed marked improvements and we once again won WBO African titles for the Best Academy, Best Promoter and Best African Boxer. As if that is not enough, we are now heading to Japan to go and challenge for the world title. We are therefore indebted to the magnificent support of the Namibian people,” he added.

The first event will be on 3 December when Immanuel ‘Prince’ Naidjala challenges Tomoki Kameda for the WBO bantamweight world title in Osaka, Japan.

“This will undoubtedly be Prince’s biggest fight in his career. He is well prepared and looking forward to making Namibia proud. He has done very well for himself and is currently the WBO bantamweight African champion as well as the IBF International bantamweight champion. We pray that Namibians will be able to watch the fight live because this promises to be fireworks,” Tobias said.

On 6 December, the spotlight will shift from Japan to the Windhoek Country Club where fans will be treated and entertained to four international title fights.

“This will undoubtedly be an exciting night of boxing and we encourage boxing fans to buy their tickets now because seats will be limited due to the size of the venue,” said Tobias.

On the blockbuster card are Abmerk Shidjuu versus Pathias Chisenga from Zambia for the vacant WBO Africa flyweight title; Martin ‘Black Poison’ Haikali versus Peter ‘The Butcher’ Malakia’ for the WBO Africa lightweight title; followed by Sackey ‘Izinyoka’ Shikukutu against Sherif Kasongo from DRC for the WBO Africa welterweight title.

The main bout will see Wilberforce ‘Black Mamba’ Shihepo taking on Daniel Wanyonyi from Kenya for the WBO Africa super middleweight title.

“This fight promises to be everything you want to see in a boxing match as two big guys will take each other on for the vacant title. This will also be good business as both boxers can punch,” Tobias said.

Tickets to this mega event cost N$10 000 for a VIP table seating 10 guests and N$200 for a regular seat ticket.

The final boxing event for the year is scheduled for 14 December in Gobabis where Vikapita ‘The Beastmaster’ Meroro will be in action against Said Mbelwa from Tanzania in an international light heavyweight clash over 10 rounds.

The main supporting bout will see Jatoorora ‘The Sting’ Tjingaveta fight Tommy ‘The Lion’ Hango, while Julius ‘Blue Machine’ Indongo is expected to defend his WBO Africa Interim light welterweight title against Takudwa Kuchocha of Zimbabwe.

Four other undercard fights are expected on the night.

“This will be the first professional boxing tournament in the Omaheke region and all boxing fans are invited to come in big numbers to support the Beastmaster and the other boxers,” said Tobias.

“We would therefore like to encourage all boxing fans to enjoy this Christmas special because we are doing it for them to show our support,” he added.
