Stop Inciting Political Violence

Stop Inciting Political Violence

I AM a Namibian student in the UK, where I’m studying a degree in Corporate Banking and Management.

Last year President Pohamba and other prominent Namibian businessmen were in London for a Namibia-UK Investment conference organised by the Commonwealth Institute. I was the only student present at the conference. It was a big advantage for me to have a chance to network and openly discuss the economic development of my beloved country.President Pohamba, through the Namibian Embassy in London, contacted all Namibian students in London to meet him at the Embassy conference hall and we took time off our hectic schedule to meet the President. He explained to us in detail about Vision 2030, he encouraged us to study hard to come back home with degrees and skills needed, etc.As a Namibian boy, I have a national duty to contribute to the development of my country.I am studying very hard to get my degree.I’m closely following political developments in Namibia and I have to say, President Pohamba, I am really disappointed about the way you incite illiterate rural people to harass RDP supporters.I am not a supporter of any of these groups but opposition parties are there firstly because it’s their democratic right and secondly, they offer different opinions, ideas and market themselves as candidates to run the country. Our democracy is threatened by Swapo and RDP tensions. If civil war breaks out in our country the top people will claim asylum in the USA, UK or elsewhere but thousands of Namibian civilians will cry out for food from UN aid workers. Please think about what you are doing and tell all your Ministers that inciting violence towards peaceful opposition parties is dangerous for Namibian development! It is honourable to fight for your country but it will be dishonourable to put your country in the gutter!
