Stem conference a success

The recently held Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust)’s science and mathematics international conference has been described as a resounding success.

The inaugural conference’, held on 3 July, sought to underscore the profound significance of mathematics and statistics.

In recognition of Nust’s instrumental role in fostering technical expertise within Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (Stem) fields, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) senior programme manager Dennis Zaire lauded the conference goal.

“It is worth noting that Nust as a technical university played a pivotal role in the promotion of development, through producing technical experts in the field of engineering, statistics, informatics and research,” Zaire said.

The conference garnered significant attention, attracting 103 papers submitted by over 200 collaborative authors hailing from 12 different countries: Botswana, Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, India, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Senegal, and South Africa.

Reinhold Kamati, representing the Bank of Namibia, expressed sincere appreciation for the immense benefits conferred by mathematical reasoning, affirming that it engenders not only logical thinking, but also analytical prowess.

“It is important to recognise that what works best today may not represent the optimal solution in the future,” he said.
