Standard Bank gets new investment chief

STANDARD Bank Namibia has appointed Nelson Lucas as the new head of corporate and investment banking from 1 April.

Lucas takes over from Anne Juuko, who was appointed as chief executive of Stanbic Bank Uganda.

Before this appointment, Lucas was the head of client coverage at the same bank.

The department he is taking on deals with trade finance, commodity trading, foreign exchange, exchange trade products, money market instruments, and debt capital markets at similar offerings.

This is also the second contributor to profit after tax for the entire Standard Bank Namibia group, bringing N$268 million to the table in 2019.

The segment carried a loan and advances book of N$4,2 billion in 2019, after registering a 5,2% knock from N$4,4 billion in 2018.

Prior to joining Standard Bank, Lucas was at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Namibia for over 14 years where he held various senior roles.

His last position was that of indirect tax partner.

During his time at PwC, he also worked in the USA offices as an auditor of banking clients.

Lucas is a chartered accountant and holds various other investment analysis, portfolio management and taxation qualifications.

He will be reporting to the chief executive officer.
