South Africa’s ANC flies flag at half-mast for Namibia’s founding father, Nujoma

The African National Congress (ANC) has lowered its flag in honour of founding president Sam Nujoma.

This was announced in a tribute to Nujoma by the ANC, issued on Sunday afternoon.

“The ANC lowers its flag and expresses its deepest condolences to president Nujoma’s family, the government, the people of Namibia, and the Swapo Party,” the statement reads.

The ANC says Nujoma was one of the last of a “remarkable” generation of African leaders.

“. . . alongside comrade Nelson Mandela, comrade Kenneth Kaunda, comrade Samora Machel, comrade Julius Nyerere and comrade Robert Mugabe, who fought for the liberation of their countries and the continent of Africa from colonial and oppressive white minority rule,” the statement reads.
