Soldier arrested over civilian shooting

A MEMBER of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) from the Luiperds Valley military base was arrested on Monday night for allegedly shooting at two men who were involved in an altercation at a local shebeen.

According to the police, the incident took place at Onampira in the Omusati region.

The soldier allegedly shot at the men in attempt to separate them, since they were said to be throwing stones and bottles around his parked vehicle.

In a separate incident, the police in the Omusati region arrested a 24-year-old man from Okashipu village in connection with the rape of a 62-year-old woman.

The woman was allegedly raped in the early hours of Tuesday morning while sleeping.

Meanwhile, two robbers broke into the Woermann Brock store at Getrude Rikumbi Kandanga Road at Walvis Bay on Monday.

The incident took place at about 23h45.

Sergeant Anastasia Frans from the Erongo police says two unknown male suspects forced open the back office’s door with an unknown object, damaged the ceiling, cut the alarm wire, and gained entry to the shop through the roof.

The suspects allegedly took N$12 100 in cash.

The police have urged members of the public with information on the incident to contact detective inspector Michael Ambambi at 081 640 1600, or investigating officer, detective sergeant Lukas Simon at 081 348 9619.

No arrests have been made, and the cash has not been recovered.
