* Nurses must stay alone in the nurses home. Relatives must stay at home. Nurses must visit them when off duty. There is a visitor`s room when visitors come to the nurses home.
Food for Thought* I THINK all of us living in Namibia and all of Africa must face facts. For the Chinese this is the second coming, they sailed with 1 000 ships long before the Portuguese. And this time they are here to stay. The mineral wealth is too valuable to ignore. Bouquets and Brickbats* I MUST agree with the SMS praising Quinton van Rooyen’s straight honest talk. It is very rare to come across corporate chiefs who don’t respond to corporate issues politically. Winner. We love our TV* ONE Africa TV, we are happy with the changes but can ETV please make the song short or show other advertisements. Thank you. Chinese Scholarships* MINISTER of Education what are you really defending? It is totally unfair for children of the rich to benefit from Chinese bursaries while poor children could not study due to lack of funds. It is just unfair and unjust.* ‘CHINESE scholarships for….’ Who is fooling who in Namibia? The Chief of the Defence Force was immediately suspended, reason given: he received money from a Chinese company. Teckla and others are facing criminal corruption charges, reason given: they received money from a Chinese company. Now that their children have received scholarships from the very same source in dubious circumstances, they don’t want it to be scrutinised, even not to be known by the nation. What is wrong with our leaders? Do they regard us as intellectually challenged? Please we do not need false explanations on how your kids got those scholarships, because we know it was exactly in the same way as the Teckla and others case. Thanks.
* CAN the Government reassign somebody else to convince the nation regarding the Chinese bursaries, for the efforts by Minister Mbumba and Co don’t hold water. Simply, let all those responsible vacate their offices if needs be. The President as well. -NADO* CHINESE bursaries: Yes, Mr (Nangolo) Mbumba, you can be bribed with a bursary. A good future for your child, and sometimes people bribe with a chocolate or a mere gift – you know what I mean. We have to be careful, this will haunt your children forever. * MINISTER Mbumba, I thought that you were going to tell the nation that a task force was formed to investigate the awarding of the Chinese bursaries and why all recipients are from one group. Don’t blame the media if you want my vote.- Ndamono, Oshiwambo-speaking Swapo supporter.* YOU can’t bribe with a bursary! Mr Mbumba, is there a list of things one can bribe with?* IT’S a pity that our ruling elite always seek to benefit from the weaknesses of the people. Why do our Swapo leaders always resort to saying people are misled by the media or opposition parties, while they themselves are the ones who mess up and mislead? The Chinese scholarship saga is an act of low moral fibre and bribery. Those ruling elites whose kids are involved are sucking opportunities from the poor. Honestly, we should not be fooling our people like that! My advice to Hon Mbumba is to further avoid ganging up with the likes Joel (Kapaanda) and (Albert) Kawana on this matter. There is nothing to defend, it is so obvious. Sad that our society is treated like this!* ‘BURSARIES Explained’. Who are these guys? They must be thinking all Namibians are obtuse. How do you defend something that is morally and ethically wrong. Maybe because of the ‘long in power’ syndrome. They have been abusing their positions for so long that they can`t distinguish right from wrong anymore. I don`t know why we still put up with their likes. Namibia does not need arrogance, we need leaders.* IF Hon Mbumba really argues that politicians can’t be bribed with bursaries then he loses my respect. I put my child through university and it cost N$100s of thousands and much sacrifice. A foreign scholarship gift would have been very tempting. Even if we omit the term bribe so many scholarships to political families surely buy influence. In fair competition did these well-placed youngsters beat half a million others? This is simply conflict of interest. Taxman note.Politics* I think it’s time that Namibians should understand what election, campaign and democracy is. It’s really sad to read, hear and see Namibians against Namibians, simply because they are of different political ethnicity. Stop being idiots and work together as one nation.Election FeverGetting ready to vote* ECN, where are the waiting lists for polling officers? Who will replace those who fail to report? – Very disappointed, Elim constituency.City Fathers Please…They regulate our driving* PLEASE re-install the three-phase traffic light at the Turnhalle.* CAN there be constant Police presence between the Kalahari Sands and FNB Independence Avenue. This has just become a haven for thieves during the day and prostitutes at night. Please do something urgently. * MUNICIPALITY of Windhoek when are you going to give us the erven we have we been waiting for so long? Can you speed up the process please, we are tired of renting. – Disappointed* IT’S a shame the City of Windhoek transports its residents in 1972 model buses. Please treat your people in a modern way. Why not buy Volvo buses with TV for their customers? – K ShilongoGeneral* SMS Page 7, November 2. What must Government do for your safety? You must report any unknown person sitting or standing in the street! You must start a neighbourhood watch in your area!
* IN The Namibian of November 2, on page 5, President Pohamba said people who provoke violence must be reported to the Police. So, please Namibians, when you hear someone doing that, call the Police!* PROBLEMS with noise in your area? It is noise pollution. Phone City Police immediately! The SMS page can’t help!* PEACE-loving, law-abiding hardworking citizens of the Land of the Brave, let us stand up and fight crime tooth and nail by reminding the Namibian Police of its responsibilities towards all inhabitants of this country and their property.* THE management of Central Hospital must act now to remove illegal residents in the nurses’ home and ensure the safety of the residents.* THAT’S a good one. Why can’t we all have the ‘culture’ of knocking off at 13h00 on Friday? In fact why bother starting on Monday, let’s start on Friday and knock off at 09h00 and let the Chinese take over. If and From the Regions* OTJIWARONGO Cenored, we at Ombili, Build Together and Clay House have had no electricity up to now. Please Cenored do something. We do attend meetings, but still nothing. Please we need electricity.- Naanda P* BASIC services needed! Uutsathima area district of Okahao has not yet been supplied with a gravel road. There is no clean water and no network. There’s no ambulance at the clinic. What do you think about teachers, Police officers and nurses who are deployed in this harsh environment? Mr Kapenambili act for the people who gave you the power. We all fought for this country.- Kambatutu People of the South?* WHERE are the people of the South? What happened to you, it became evident once again when the Aussenkehr story was broadcast, even the councillor is not from that region. Rosh Pinah is the same story. Wake up Southerners from your deep sleep! – Rose* I WANT to register my disappointment through this platform about the Tsumeb Copper Festival organising committee, because they let the Police officers close the stalls earlier on Saturday. The stalls were supposed to close at 23h30, not 22h00.- Concerned Tsumeber.
* MARIENTAL Municipality CEO, open your eyes. If one needs an erf in the informal settlement you must pay N$1 000 to (name supplied). Where are we the poor going?* I WANT to support the SMS yesterday about the high electricity tariffs at Grootfontein. It’s the same as Walvis Bay. At Erongo Red I recharge for N$1 000 and I get credit of N$768. Government please look at this.* IF they specify that taxis at the coast must be less than five years old, the problem is solved. There would only be half a dozen. For the people of Namibia* IF it is decided that the plots at Oshikango are to be auctioned, let them be made available to Namibians only this time. Ninety-five per cent of land is now owned by foreigners.* THANKS to China Time Square, Ondangwa. Though it’s small, the artificial lawn park in front of your shopping centre has brought joy to my kids. I hope Ondangwa Town Council will eventually learn why it’s important to have a big real public park with lots of entertaining facilities for all of us residents!* IN a recent visit to the Himba people’s area, I observed poor and hungry people but with a lot of dignity. Himbas, like other tribes in Namibia, deserve more attention and a real programme in education to develop and progress. Politicians please take care of your heritage. I am white, from Europe.Labour Issues* PLEASE, please stop, stop, stop giving construction work to the Chinese! Many Namibians can do it! You are causing more Namibians to be unemployed!Education.* SHILONGO, please, do not let your ideas die! We are suffering please! Do a follow up with IOL on the termination issue of our courses!* I WANT to ask the Ministry of Education (Department of Loans) if the NIMT also received double loans like other institutes?* NSFAF (government loan), please settle science students account at Unam, you are discouraging us since we are starting exam on November 11.- Unam student.* I FAIL to understand the Namibian government. They say more schools and kindergartens must be established in Namibia but they refuse to accept the new primary school in Arandis.* MINISTRY of Education, my child is a student at Tabitha Primary School in Arandis. And I assure you that it is the best school my child has attended. But I don’t understand why it has to be closed. What exactly is wrong with it? I thought education was our first priority in Namibia* THE principal of Katima Combined School suspended the majority of learners from classes on November 2. The reason: parents did not attend a meeting. Did he get permission from the PS via the director to do so? Does this not violate the Education Act? The Act says only the PS can suspend a learner. Health Matters* DR Gariseb, superintendent Katutura State Hospital, have you seen the potholes at your hospital? The security guard, employees and others looked on, but no one called the police. What happened to customer care? What happened to one Namibia one nation?Always check the dates* THE perception with people is that only food stores in the less well-off areas of Windhoek would dare sell expired foodstuffs to customers. I was (pleasantly) surprised to see this is not the case. If you happen to or plan to buy milk and juice in Woermann Maerua Mall, make sure you look at their expiry dates! There goes that theory I guess!* ANYONE who buys something of poor quality or low standard or has received poor service, please wake up! We have the NSI. Report such cases. Dear minister please take action.* I WOULD like to know from Legal Shield mobile office, what about Usakos and Erongo West? Why must we go to them? We all need service. They’re transporting Swapo supporters to rallies over weekends. This is abuse.NBC* CAN NBC TV repeat ‘Where Others Wavered’, because TV at Otavi was off air the whole weekend.Sporting* I AGREE with Mr Albertus Aochamub when he called for visionary leadership in sports. In my opinion, Namibia needs to do two things: 1. We must invest in the training of administrators, referees, coaches and teacher-coaches. 2. We must find a serious and focused talent identification programme that focuses on mini sports and is directed from a central point. And lastly we obviously need to avail adequate resources to develop sports.
