SMS Of The Day
* WHY is it, when Government constructs a road, clinic, school, you name them and we, the public, have to thank and praise the specific ministry for doing it. Isn’t it the job we elected them to do? And isn’t it the public money we all contribute they are using? A job well done for the road linking Onkani to Oshakati. That is what they have to do. It’s their job.
Food for Thought* I THOUGHT we fought for liberty and freedom? Now let’s stand together and fight bribery and corruption. Together we stand, divided we fall. Aluta!R.I.P.* MY heartfelt condolences to the family, children, relatives, workers, friends, business community (especially in Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto and Ohangwena), the entire northern community and Namibia at large for having lost a local business giant and icon, Jairus ‘Punyu’ Shikale who passed away on October 29 2009. Punyu changed the lives of many. If I had my way, I would have declared him a national hero because he is qualified for the Heroes’ Acre. ‘Great geniuses have the shortest biographies’, said the writer and philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson. May his soul rest in peace while his spirit continues!- Steven Mvula, Omuntele Constituency, Oshikoto Region Bouquets and Brickbats* THANK you to those who work on our national roads, telephone lines, electricity pylons, etc. You are away from your families for so long. We salute you! We appreciate your selfless work. May God bless you.* CONGRATULATIONS to Paulus ‘the Rock’ Ambunda for becoming the new WBO African Interim Bantamweight champion. You made us proud. Discipline and hard work is the key to success. Keep it up and train hard.- Werner Nashilundo, a boxing fan.* I HAVE to thank One Africa TV for the new channel they are bringing us. Some of us are poor and don’t have the money for DStv. Thanks keep it up! * THANK you One Africa for bringing eTV to us. You are really a broadcaster. Keep on putting your viewers first.- SAS* I WENT to watch on Saturday as Namibia’s legend, Lolo Goraseb, was officially retiring from the beautiful game. I am South African, and I must say that the mere mention of his name in the line-up against South Africa was always a bit of a scare. He was a genius, a marvel to watch … he was to Namibia what Doctor Khumalo was for South Africa. However, as usual, those that seem bent on destroying Namibian football were there … the ‘boo-boys’. Guys, when are you going to realise that what you are doing kills the game in Namibia. Who in his right state of mind will want to sponsor football where ‘fans’ are uncontrollable and can’t distinguish between a ‘fun game’ and a real soccer match. All those guys who booed each time Ronnie Kanalelo touched the ball, shame on you! I know he made some unwise decisions in the past, that could have made him seem unpatriotic…but to boo him in a social game? Give the poor guy a break! The world is watching, Africa here’s 2010! – TK, Windhoek* PLEASE The Namibian in the Oshiwambo article of late Ms Enkono dated November 3 needs correction. Your heading was: ‘The nurse killed at nurses’ home in Windhoek’. Please correct. She was not a nurse but a radiographer. Don’t mislead the public. Tell the truth please. Thanks.* ON Monday you reported the woman’s throat was slit, today you are reporting she was hit with a hammer yet you don’t bother to point out your obvious inconsistent reporting? So much for still telling it like it is!- Shangombe SS – With a breaking story, reporters often have to rely on eyewitnesses. It is only afterwards, sometimes when that day’s deadline has passed, that official comments are made. There is absolutey no intention to mislead the public. And if an error has been made, The Namibian is always prepared to correct this. – Newsdesk Politics* I WOULD like to appeal to our young generation, particularly to the ‘Born Frees’: If you care for the future of your country and for your own future, then vote for change in this coming November elections. – A ShindjobaElection Fever* SWAPO is our party but the information is not reaching us. Why? Deaf people also need all information like all other Namibians. President Pohamba please tell all candidates to have sign language interpreters at all rallies.- Tega Abner Sheya (Deaf)* ECN, what measures do you have in place in cases of power failures, like during the counting process should it happen? For instance in remote areas. We don’t want excuses later.- A Concerned VoterChinese Scholarships* I AM very sad that I live in a country where the majority are not independent thinkers and are fooled by politicians whose aim is to enrich themselves and their families. Surely democracy never thrives without civility and quality education. Namibians please wake up and practise democracy for change!* MR Mbumba: anything of value you accept, or even worse, solicit, constitutes a bribe if you hold public office. – Anti-corruption* THE bursary allocation stinks of nepotism, self-enrichment. Mr Mbumba your excuses won’t work.* HON Mbumba, how can you defend or explain Chinese bursaries after you just told us that you don’t know what happened? Surely you Swapo leaders think that Namibians are plain stupid.* HON Mbumba, we are smart enough to dismiss your poor excuse as to how the bursaries were obtained. You people want to secure your children’s futures at our expense. Some of us have obtained degrees at Unam and don’t have proper jobs. Studying in China would have improved our opportunities.* THE answers given by the Government on the Chinese bursaries leave much to be desired. The core question is: How did those kids come to know about the scholarships if they were not advertised?* PEOPLE are suspended to allow investigations to go on. The cases of Shalli and Tekla speak. Why not the same for the leadership of the Ministry of Education while the Chinese bursaries are being clarified?* THE Chinese scholarships were advertised in the newspapers for all to apply. What is happening now? How do people know about it?* NOW I know why Chinese companies are exploiting our people, stealing, faking and exporting money while the Swapo Party leaders are dead silent. It is because of bursaries, free interest loans, gifts and commissions. There are only two ways: a public apology by the President or a dissolution of the current Cabinet now or through the ballot box. * THERE you are China, biting the hand that feeds you. How can we the nation, allow these insults in our own country. Where are the Founding Father and the Justice Minister now? Are they not supposed to remind China about the liberation struggle? Our own Government makes sure they get the best tenders at the expense of our own poor workforce. Shame on you, now we can see clearly the reasons behind the favouritism. (China bursaries). In and Fromthe Regions* EDUCATION is the key. I need Afrikaans classes. Anyone out there in Grootfontein who knows where can I register for this language, contact me 081-332-8021* THE shops close to the tennis court in Ongwediva have become a drinking place for Valombola Vocational Training Centre students. General* I WANT to find out what sustainable projects did Government put up for the resettled San people at farm Uitkomst to be able to sustain themselves or are they just sitting waiting for the food car to come? The dependence syndrome is an incurable disease.- Ndakumwa, Windhoek NBC* I AGREE with the SMS on Tuesday that NBC radio should bring back the BBC sports programme on Saturday and Sunday. The current local programme is boring and we given old stories. Mr DG please hear this humble appeal.Namibia: The Struggle For Liberation* WHAT happened to the movie NBC TV promised to show us on Sunday November 1 2009 at 19h30? Can you please tell us when you are going to show it. Some of us are ‘born frees’ and we want to know what happened during the struggle.- The film about the life of Founding President Sam Nujoma and the liberation struggle, ‘Namibia: The Struggle For Liberation’, is being shown on NBC on Sunday nights at 19h30 as advertised. The first of seven instalments was shown last Sunday but there were some technical problems for people watching NBC through their DStv decoders. These problems are being dealt with. The film is also being shown on Wednesdays at 12h30. – NewsdeskHealth Matters* POTHOLES at Katutura hospital. Yes, I see them every day to the extent that my eyes are very sore! I hope you have also seen the new developments like shade nets and parking bays at the hospital. This has been done with the hospital’s limited resources. Please bear with us. Our core function and mandate is health provision, maintenance is not our core function. There is a responsible ministry. However, as mentioned, the problem is being addressed within our resource limits. Thanks.- Hospital manager* THE lady who was sterilised (The Namibian 26 October) please contact this number 081-147-0760 for more information
