SMSes of the Day : Wednesday

SMSes of the Day : Wednesday

* RAMATEX took our country for a ride and our Government was not able to realise it at the time. Next will be the Chinese and the Government will still not learn its lesson, as it is the ratepayers’ money! I suggest our Government pay the money to the municipality out of its own pocket.

* MY heart aches about the 12-year-old prisoner who has been jailed. Is there no better option to help our street children? Our Lord will save them from suffering. When will those who commit crime and corruption be jailed, instead of the street children, who could turn into jewels if they are cared for. * I KNOW why a lot of Namibian women are killed. Talking from own experience, I might be the next one because I am facing the same dilemma. I have been dating a very possessive man and he is threatening me. I reported the matter to the Police many times, but they always send me back and now I am just waiting for my death. The only thing I want is protection for my mother because he has threatened to kill us all if I leave him. Please the Police should do something to help me.Food for thought* CONGRATULATIONS to our Namibian leaders for approving the new State House complex costing N$600 million, while the majority of the nation is hungry.* MY appreciation goes to Bonita Nakambo and Brian Riruako. The two have a sound knowledge on the topics of youth and poverty reduction. The hostels at youth centres throughout the country have been built where only computer literacy programmes are offered. Have Mr Tjikuzu with his team realised that a lot of time is wasted by the youth to attend this programme since it does not take them anywhere than throwing them back on the street again. Prove me wrong by releasing a statement about the number of youth who came through these computer literacy classes and are now using those skills. Mr Tjikuzu take a trip to Frans Dimbare and come tell the nation if the centre is benefiting the youth. How about millions of dollars lost through failed investments, instead of providing bursaries to students. I believe if institutions like GIPF and Social Security are to invest in the youth nothing could be lost even though the period of seeing the returns could take longer. If there is surplus for the company and management do not know what to do with the money invest in the youth, a good example is Bank Windhoek giving toolboxes to youth at Kayec.* I HAVE a question to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. Why are they shooting game for the Witbooi cultural festival from two southern game parks, namely Hardap and Naute every year? There are other tribes commemorating the same events but never get game from these parks. Also the staff looking after the animals in the game parks are never given even one oryx at the end of the year just to thank them.Politics in general* I’M very disappointed in African leaders. Why are they so afraid of Mugabe? Just because he liberated Zimbabwe does this give him the right to oppress his own people? This is worse than apartheid, because he is doing this to his own people. What kind of a leader is he, what example is he setting for Africa?* PEOPLE let us be realistic. I would like to emphasise that those who broke away from Swapo to form RDP didn’t do so because they wanted to. All this happened because of the autocratic behaviour of the former Swapo President. It is unlikely, that the breakaway RDP would have happened under Pohamba’s watch as party leader.* VIVA Swapo. No matter what the prophets of doom are preaching daily, Swapo will be victorious forever. We are determined to intensify our unity. Come 2008 and our machinery will be in motion. We are not sleeping. – Lemmy* WHICH star is owned by CoD? Is it the Mercury, Venus, Leo, Lucky Star, All Stars or Omugulugwombashe Star? Is the party in possession of a patent right and or purchase right from DRC and the US that first started to use stars on their flags? Shame on the childish politics being used as a national priority! What if Swapo and UDF started claiming ownership of a clinched fist? Fighting for a star while the party is dismantling into unruly factions won’t help the party. Your star must go and vote for you then! From the regions* THE Government ordered NamWater to open all closed taps, but here at Onathinge south in Onayena taps were only opened for two days. We want to know why.* CAN the Government subsidise maize meal in the Caprivi to help the aged afford a 25 kg bag of maize meal. At the moment it is practically impossible for them, even for ordinary labourers, to buy a 50 kg bag of maize meal. We must think of those orphaned children they have to be fed. – Martin Silimwe* TO Mr Kayone, the Governor of Omusati Region and councillor of Ogongo constituency! I am a resident of Okapuku village in Ogongo constituency, near Outapi. We do not have water to drink. The water point is not yet open. The community representative is demanding that villagers pay the debt they owe to NamWater. The representative told the villagers that the key for the water point is lost. The water point key is kept by a young man staying in a location far from the village. In fact both the community representative and the man who keeps the key do not reside at Okapuku village and as such the two do not associate themselves with the villagers who are suffering! Please Mr Kayone come and sort out this corruption, as a matter of URGENCY for the people to get water as per Government order!* WHEN will the more than 100 Km Linyanti-Sangwali gravel road be tarred? We the people using that road are suffering too much, especially now during the rainy season. Will the honourable Minister of Works visit when it rains and see it for himself.* THAT the Omusati clique channel all development to the Omusati Region is a myth. We invite everyone to come and see for themselves what better services and development is brought to the Omusati Region that is not coming to the other regions. The people in the Omusati Region are suffering just like people in the rest of the country. They experience water shortages, unemployment, lack of health facilities and many other shortages. Mr Iyaloo Iipumbu must tell the nation what kind of development he brought to his own village of Ogongo.* I AM a resident of Iindangungu and I need an answer from the councillor of the Okaku constituency about the money that we contributed for the construction of the Police station at Iindangungu, but nothing has been done so far. If you can’t give us feedback please return our contributions.* PLEASE can the Okahandja municipality make a serious effort to clean Nau-Aib and the town’s surroundings. No human being can live under those conditions. It’s absolutely unacceptable.* I’M a resident of Elombe village in Onayena constituency. I want to ask Mr Max Nekongo our councillor what improvement he brought to Elombe? We managed to bring the network tower on our own, the only thing we have is water that we get from the previous councillor.* WE urge the town council of Arandis and Erongo Red to introduce Speedpoints at their offices for the payment of services. – MuashekeleForeign teachers* I’M shocked and annoyed to hear that about 100 maths and science teachers will be expected from Nigeria. Is our line ministry aware that we have a shocking number of professional qualified teachers who are roaming around without being employed? I’m talking about Unam, education college and those who have graduated from Zimbabwe colleges. I seriously don’t see the need of pleasing outsiders while our own countrymen and women are out of work. I could salute the initiative if we were to exchange the same amount of jobless Namibian teachers to Nigeria. It is very frustrating to be on the streets, especially after three to four years of tertiary education.* MATHS and science teachers who graduated from Zimbabwe last year and this year are still unemployed. I wonder why our Government is trying to solve the problem for unemployment in Nigeria, while we are having the same problem in Namibia.* WHAT a disaster! 116 teachers from Nigeria, this means the education system in Namibia failed completely. The best is to bring the RSA education system to Namibia.* HONOURABLE Minister of Education, why do you employ Nigerian teachers while lots of Namibian youth trained as teachers are jobless?* WHY is the Ministry of Education doing this to its own people? It means that you put foreigners before your people. You brought in Nigerian teachers for science subjects, while our graduates from Zimbabwe are still on the street. Feed your own people to be strong to standing in the queues come election time.Education* PLEASE Mr Mvula, our school is close to the Ogongo circuit, but we are part of the Oshikuku constituency. We are told to go to the Elim circuit which is serving the two constituencies, Oshikuku and Elim. But the Elim circuit is 65 km away. Is this decentralisation? Please inform the PS to issue a circular defining this.* RECTOR of the Polytechnic of Namibia, I applied for admission to PoN in August 2007, but still haven’t received a letter of acknowledgement or any letter in regard to my application for the year 2008. I know there are many applicants but please do something about the situation. – Jo* THE Bet-el primary school planned a tour to Cape Town for August 2006, but this didn’t materialise at all, while some parents had paid the full amount of N$2 600. We have not been refunded a single cent. I appeal to the school board to pay our money back to us. Apparently the director has been shown the copies of the financial documents, but no parent has seen such documents. The only response we get is the man in SA does not answer the cellphone. Since you saw the books when are these people going to give us our money Ms Director?* THE public still doesn’t understand the logic of five separate certificates for a Grade 12 pass. Can the ministry look into combining these certificates into one.General* I AM always happy for NBC TV to broadcast live, as many Namibians unable to go to the Sanlam NBC Music Awards were able to tune in. But what an embarrassment it was to see some of these presenters giving the awards, Remember that not only Namibians were watching the awards. There is always room for improvement, next time please let the presenters prepare to do better, thanks to people like Frank Fredericks who did well.* IWAY, why is it that we dial-up users have so many problems with your service? We keep on getting error messages that the connection has timed out or cannot find the server.* IT is so absurd that the youth of today are so lazy and ungrateful. We are only after material things and lack a sense of responsibility. We prostitute ourselves in the name of trying to pay for our studies and yet we don’t graduate. Everything is blamed on poverty. I think we need a reality check.* CITY Police, please put officers on the streets to control the army of young boys hanging around aimlessly at night, especially in Omuryambambi street in Okuryangava.* THE Minister of Health keeps on emphasising and calling on nurses not to leave the ministry, but face it there is nothing to keep the nurses in the ministry that you keep on destroying on a daily basis.* FNB why are other languages like Silozi not translated in that ‘Thank you FNB’ advert of yours. What standards are following in choosing in which language to translate the message.* CAN somebody from the ACC please inform us about the competition they had about the new slogan. When will the winners be announced? Hopefully before Christmas!* WHAT a shock! As a pensioner I received an electricity and water account of over N$7 000. I was charged nominal amounts for two months, then a huge bill of usage all put into one month, pushing my account up. Last month I sent faxes with all the readings, but have not received any reply. Now I wish to query it again, but no one at the municipality ever answers the phones.* THE Policeman who shot a dog at Avis dam can only be described as badly trained, if trained at all, and undisciplined. The fact that no steps are being taken against him shows clearly what is going on in the Police.* I THINK the Police officers should also think of upgrading their qualifications before thinking about high salaries. Teachers and nurses are paid according to their qualifications why not Police officers? We are tired of officers who cannot read and write.* THE Ministry of Education should engage the South African government to exempt Namibian students from obtaining study permits to enrol at South African tertiary institutions. The processing of study permits takes up to two months and you cannot register without it. The RSA embassy should also try and reduce the time of processing of study permits or we should be allowed to register without it and then apply for the study permits whilst in South Africa, as is the case for Namibian students in Zimbabwe. – PM Kambala* I’M disappointed by the handling of passengers’ luggage by the Zambia-Namibia express (a passenger bus travelling from Windhoek to Lusaka via Katima) on Thursday. Passengers where ordered to take only one bag each on this bus, leaving most of them stranded not knowing what to do with other bags. A fee of N$10 or N$20 was charged for a bag depending on the size. Why can’t they have a trailer in order to take more goods? My family had to travel to Lusaka without some of their bags. What poor arrangement and disregard for passengers’ welfare is this? Our tickets were bought a week ago and you are only refunded if you cancel within 48 hours, so it was too late to arrange for alternative transport. I’ve never seen something like this. This is a holiday season and we buy a lot of things for our families, how do you expect one to carry one bag only. – Stam* I KNOW why a lot of Namibian women are killed.
