SMSes of the Day : Tuesday

* I DON’T really know what happened but let’s grow up and refrain from fighting each other because of politics. Let’s acknowledge that we are all special individuals with different ideologies. Variety makes life interesting. Let’s embrace differences and see how we can use them for the better. If a person disagrees with you it doesn’t necessarily mean he [or she] is wrong and deserves to get a hiding, it simply means he thinks differently from you. Brothers belonging to different political parties must be able to live peacefully under the same roof. Fighting each other promotes hatred and not love and that leads to destruction of many. We need to love and protect one another. Pray for your fellow if you think he is in the wrong or check your conduct, maybe you need to make amends. Let’s not ruin our beautiful country by making others live in fear. Let’s live a life of integrity. Let’s fight together on common issues like poverty reduction, school failure reduction, a better way of collecting due taxes to reduce high tax rates, etc, that face us. – Very well said. – News Editor

* WELCOME to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf! At last Namibia hosts someone who deserves real respect! May your visit teach our leaders that civil war must be avoided at all costs. What Mugabe is doing and even what our leaders are doing in promoting the tension between Swapo and RDP is disastrous. The clash between brothers is of all conflicts the most difficult to recover from. – PLM Food For Thought* I WISH the Government would look at this SMS page and endorse some of the suggestions. This page can help them to come up with good annual work plans and action items to keep the various ministries busy through out the year.* I’M very shocked to read a story in Friday’s The Namibian, page 29. The poor old man aged 86, Onesmus Gabriel, has to pay N$1 900 together with his daughter for siding with a widow from the same village, Omadhiya. Every peace-loving Namibian who read this story was left with a million questions. How can the old man be punished for telling the truth and nothing else than the truth. I don’t even know this man, but my heart is severely bleeding for him, because this can happen to anyone else. Mr [Phil] Ya Nangoloh [of the NSHR], you are there for people’s rights which are being taken or abused. Please I beg you to investigate this case with immediate effect. The authority [headman] set the payment date for next Friday, July 18. But please Mr Ya Nangoloh or anyone who loves justice must try to block this exploitation from these headmen, while a full investigation is carried out to determine whether the poor old man and his daughter have committed a crime. – BB – Thank you for your concern. Apparently he was fined because he spoke out against the disowning of a widow. It’s related to when a husband dies and his family comes and takes all the belongings. The brave elderly man reportedly disagreed. – News EditorPolitics In General* WHY are people just talking about black Barack Obama but never say anything about the white president of Botswana? To me he is the first white president in Africa. – Ian Khama Seretse Khama, the President of Botswana, and Barack Obama, presumptive Democratic presidential candidate in the US, both have in common that they have white mothers and African fathers. – News Editor* A MINISTRY of Religion! It is now clear that Mr Ngurare [Swapo Party Youth League Secretary] does not read. I thought for someone who has political ambitions he has memorised the Namibian Constitution! Does Mr Ngurare know that Namibia is a secular state? It is people like Ngurare who make the SPYL seem dumb! From now on any SPYL member who makes ignorant statements should be called to order. We are sick and tired of such embarrassing remarks! It reflects badly on Swapo and its members. Viva Swapo!* NGURARE must be sick to start attacking people like Ponhele ya Frans and linking him to the Nyamu notes without any proof. He must remember that these are the people who fought for the liberation of this beautiful country of ours. If Ngurare has proof that Ponhele can be connected to Nyamu’s notes, let him prove it please. I am a Kwanyama by tribe but that does not in any way connect me to Nyamu, who is by the way not a Kwanyama, or to his RDP grouping. I hope Ngurare, whom I respect so much, takes into consideration the pain and tension he is causing to innocent people he suspects of being political enemies based on tribal lines. I wanted to call him personally but I do not have his number and if he has a problem with this SMS he is free to call me at 085 561 1260. – Nekongo* MR [Erastus] Kahuure of the Ovambanderu Concerned Group is being used by political shenanigans to bring disunity among the Ovambanderu community. Long life to the spirit of Chief Munjuku Nguvauva.Zimbabwe* PRESIDENT Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, your stand on Zimbabwe is highly appreciated by the majority of the Namibian people. Keep up the spirit and welcome to Namibia!* ZIMBABWE proves what a cynical, cruel joke is the African Renaissance! The African Union’s credibility is in tatters. What was needed was action not abrogation.* PLEASE fellow Namibians, leave the issue of Zimbabwe to the people of that country. Instead speak about the price of food in our country. – Namibians ARE speaking about the price of food in our country. At the same time it’s admirable that they CARE about fellow Africans in Zimbabwe who are suffering. – News EditorEducation* LEARNERS are still found around shopping complexes at Ondangwa asking for donations. Minister stamp your authority again, kids must not be trained to be beggars by their principals, teachers and churches.* NICKY: Unam is not the best but a land of corruption. The management makes decisions without consulting students, and even you as the SRC.* Imagine 350 and something people (at the Ongwediva College of Education) wrote an entry test and each one wrote three papers. But they only took a day to mark and after that the shortlisted names of those who qualified for the oral test were already displayed. Are they marking our papers with computers or what! ACC please look at this with big eyes.* IF the Ministry of Education cannot help enough Namibian students to get their first medical degree, how are we going to get enough cardiologists of our own. If we gave the same amount of attention to educating our people like we give to building monuments and making million-dollar movies, that we don’t even get to watch, we would make better sense. N$100 000 = one doctor, we can have many more from N$8 million!General* TAKE a look at the food, fuel and taxi prices. It is ridiculous. Did the Government have the slightest idea what consequences it will have on the children, especially schoolchildren who use taxis to and from school. How will they survive the rising cost with mothers who single-handedly look after them? Maintenance fees should also be increased! – Concerned scholar* THANKS to the GRN for putting my Rasta father in jail, because of herbs (ganja), while the real criminals like rapists, killers, liars, alcohol abusers are walking around free. Discrimination based on religion. Shame on the lawmakers. – RastaBouquets And Brickbats* HURRAH to Elijah Ngurare for inviting white youth into the SPYL fold. It represents a fresh alternative to the tiring blame politics of his elders. – Steve, Swakop* I’M a tour operator and a frequent visitor to the Spitzkoppe Community Restcamp. I’m really impressed with what the new management has achieved in this short period since they have taken over. Their only income is through the entry fees that the tourists pay, which is also the cheapest in the region that I travel in, but it is amazing what they have developed with that income. They also have excellent customer service. Thanks for keeping my customers happy. Keep up the good work, and may God bless you in your future endeavours. – Nomad Adventures Tour Operator* THE Namibian, please improve your distribution on Fridays. – Could you kindly contact Mrs Strong in The Namibian’s distribution department and provide her with details so that we can work at ironing out the problems. That would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. – News EditorOur Sporting Life* CHIEF Santos you have done it again. Welcome back to the NPL, we are proud of you. – Skii, Walvis BayFood For Thought * I WISH the Government would look at this SMS page and endorse some of the suggestions.
