* WHAT an unfortunate land is Namibia? Head of State and newly elected Swapo president Hifikepunye Pohamba does not show up at the commemoration of a World AIDS Day at Keetmanshoop and instead joined Swapo’s congress celebration at Sam Nujoma Stadium.King of Kwaito, The Dogg, won Sanlam Music Award 2007 and told his fans who talk about him in the Lokasie to ‘swallow the blade (of a razor)’. What will happen thereafter? Equally, the newly elected SPYL SG, Elijah Ngurare, threatened to use bazookas and machine guns against Nujoma critics. Do we reward those who do not deserve it and punish those who qualified and deserve to be rewarded?
* I NEED someone to please tell me what’s wrong with The Dogg. I do not know if it’s manners that he lacks or whether he just does not care at all. Every time he opens his mouth to say something it’s either to criticise or to insult. What was so difficult for him to say a simple thank you? The Dogg should learn to control his outbursts. Like they say ‘every dog gets its day’ so he should not expect victory each year. He is sending out wrong messages to many children because they look up to him. Food for thought* THE recent Lironga Eparu tirade is far from over. Two donors have given notice of withdrawal, citing gross negligence by the organisation’s management, tarnishing and potentially jeopardising funding of HIV initiatives in Namibia. Let us just focus on political buy in but get leaders in the AIDS service sector to be accountable. Perhaps it’s time for some managers in the AIDS service industry to bow out before they are forcibly thrown out!* IT was disappointing for President Pohamba to let the people down by not showing up at Keetmanshoop for the World AIDS Day on Saturday. Not even the Health Minister turned up. Fighting for your political future is more important than showing leadership in the fight against AIDS. Mandela showed more leadership than the two of you together on World AIDS Day.* I HEARD another passenger in a taxi saying that he was taking alcohol into the hospital for his friend. What happened to security? Where are we going?Politics in general* NOW is the time for Swapo to reshuffle ministers according to the party hierarchy from top to bottom. Some ministers have to make way for others. Come out of the shade and foster good governance in the country without disparities.* A CAUTION to small political parties in our country – the more they criticise Swapo, the more the party is gaining support and strength. It is advisable for them to stop criticising and concentrate on better issues. We in Swapo are united and shall remain as such because we have a vision unlike other parties, who are making empty promises to the nation.* SHAME on Swapo! How dare they exclude Ya Toivo from Politburo? The spin doctor is still hard at work. – RachelMusic awards* HOW can The Dogg be the best artist when Stanley had the best sales? There is something wrong with the award system. Next time bring auditors experienced in music awards from the region. The Dogg is also a bad winner. How do you win and insult people? He has no respect for elders. Music lovers, how can a person win four awards and be the best-selling artist (Stanley), but fail to win Artist of the Year award? Has this become a tradition that only those big names should scoop the Artist of the Year award year in and year out. Change the voting system to accommodate all the artists. – UK, Whk* CONGRATULATIONS Tee Dee aka The Dogg! You’ve done us proud and you always deserve what you get. Some must just understand that you’ve got supporters who will never let you down. We supporters will always back you regardless of what some think and say about you and our voices have spoken. Otherwise, who can ignore – you are the best. Please, take no silly things to heart. People don’t talk about worthless people, note that.* SANLAM and NBC, I think we should not vote for the Artist of the Year award. Instead we should judge on the amount of work an artist has put in over the year. I think people like Sunnyboy, Lady May, Gazza and Stanley put in a lot into their productions this year. – Sim* WHAT method is used to select winners in music categories? Ou Stakes takes best-selling artist, but losses to The Dogg who only produced two singles. This is unfair! These are no music awards, it’s the DOGG and GAZZA awards.* CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners of Sanlam NBC music awards, in particular The Dogg, you rock our worlds. I am an AIDS orphan and your speech that night gave me hope. Thank you so much for inspiring lives!!* STANLEY takes most of the award, including best-selling artist, obviously he is supposed to take the Artist of the Year award. Ou Stakes deserved the award. We are disappointed and this seems to be daylight robbery. Well done Welwitschia Productions and everyone knows we’ve been robbed. Even in the music industry we have to endure this kind of treatment.* THANKS for The Dogg for winning the Sanlam NBC Music Awards. I am a GMP fan but I am so disappointed by The Dogg’s words after receiving the award. He is a grown-up person, but uses unacceptable language in the presence of VIPs. You people are the inspiration for our young generation. Gazza, keep up all the good work and spread all the educating messages to the upcoming generation. We are behind you. But The Dogg, change your manners. – Jesy* CONGRATULATIONS to The Dogg! You have proved once again that you will always be on top of the game. You bring hope to us once hopeless people. We love you man! I truly believe you are the most deserving winner! Your music is unique, energetic, soulful and classic, yet locally inspiring!! You give us people who have to go through hardships everyday hope to wake up and do something about our situation!* NAMIBIAN artists should differentiate between acceptable and inappropriate behaviour in society. They should know that most of the young ones cherish them therefore they should exercise restrained in whatever they say or do. The Dogg behaves like a person who was raised without manners. He should know the limits of his tongue. He made a fool of himself at the music awards. He owes the nation an apology.* WHY do Namibians only see mistakes made by The Dogg and never say a word about mistakes committed by Gazza. Leave The Dogg alone, he is a deserved winner. By saying “swallow the blade”, he was referring to his enemies always attacking him. Mshasho you can’t ignore.* WELL done Gazza, once more you showed maturity no wonder you are an ambassador for our children. God gave you the wisdom to produce music of hope. To Stanley well done. To me you are the Artist of the Year. I want to know what The Dogg meant with his statement of swallowing the blade. If he referred to Gazza then shame on him, because Gazza is unstoppable.* I WOULD like to condemn The Dogg’s childish comments he made after receiving the award of the Artist of the Year. As a Mshasho fan I felt so embarrassed and annoyed. The Dogg should stop destroying and start building the music industry. The truth is nobody wants to follow a person, who does not want to reconcile. He is a disgrace to the whole nation. He does not have respect at all, he even has the audacity to use that type of language in front of the former Prime Minister, thus as a concerned citizen I demand The Dogg to apologise in public for his behaviour as he is a public figure.* WOULD would love to congratulate our maestro, Gazza, for the superb performance at the awards, most of all for winning! Once more you have proven that you are the King of Kwaito! You are an inspiration, we love you!! 467 till I die! – Taleni* LET me correct you SMS sender. The Dogg deserves the win! Please Namibian people, let’s learn to applaud others for a job well done. The music awards were perfectly fair. The Dogg won because he was voted by his fans. Congratulations The Dogg. You deserve it because your fans voted for you.* THE Dogg you are the most uncivilised role model, do us a favour and go back to school and learn some manners. You disappointed us your fans with your comments at the awards.Education* I LOST hope when I visited Ondangwa College of Education on Monday, November 26. More than 1 000 students sat for an entrance test for lower primary and they only needed 70 candidates. Hundreds will be thrown on the streets. Why can’t the ministry introduce or employ these people to work in areas such as Okongo and give them opportunity for BETD insert, like those who are currently working with a Standard 8 pass?* I WANT to ask the Permanent Secretary of Education some questions: How far is the ministry with the problem of Vista University graduates of 1999 for their qualification to be recognised. Now we are forced to enrol for the BETD in service programme or have done it already. How do you expect us to perform our duties well? Please PS do something about this issue.* TEACHERS from Unam stop being jealous and selfish. How can you feel insulted when your teaching qualifications are compared to a diploma obtained from a Zimbabwe education college? Teachers from Zimbabwe were trained to teach Grade 12 just like you. Stop fooling yourself that we went to Zimbabwe because we did not meet Unam entry requirements. We got our diploma from UZ (University of Zimbabwe).* I HAVE two years experience as a teacher, but have never met any advisory teacher. I never attended a seminar or any in-service training programme. People, let us have a culture of admitting our mistakes. Advisory teachers must have representatives at marking centres, but not them doing the marking. Please, calling first before money!* NAMCOL must have a fulltime teaching set-up ready for all failures and conditions must be set to motivate learners. Learners are far too unaccountable.Food for thought * THE recent Lironga Eparu tirade is far from over.
