SMSes Of The Day : Monday

* A PRAYER for good health for Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa. Africa needs qualities like his.

* WE Namibians, let’s celebrate life. Zimbabweans do not know cheese and butter. Food For Thought* BELIEVE it or not, the unemployment situation in Namibia is a result of ownership of the market. Those who own the market have the last say of who is to be employed irrespective of whether one has studied in Namibia, SA, UK, USA or wherever. Those who own the market employ their families and relatives first before considering anyone else, usually in low-profile positions. After all, the utmost aim of business is to make profit for the owner and the family, before a spill-over to the overall economy. Unless we diversify the market ownership through property ownership, we should forget sending our kids to the best schools ever and to come and work for the private sector (which we do not own) other than the public sector.* I PROPOSE that all SADC presidents be taken on a tour of Zimbabwe at the same time and in the same bus for them to see the same suffering of the people at the same time and have a meeting on it, at the same time, after the tour to discuss what the way forward from what they saw. We don’t want to hear there is no crisis there is democracy and blah blah. You have permission to use the taxpayers’ money for that tour. – Cleo, LuederitzPolitics* SOMEBODY asked on the Chat Show why the media report on Ministers’ debts. Well, they are also MPs like the rest and MPs can lose their seats if they are found to be insolvent. Thus the newsworthiness.* THE aim of revealing Hage Geingob’s municipality bills is to block him from becoming President. Mark my words. – Mark Shinyakwi* WITH the despotic utterings of Jerry Ekandjo getting more extreme by the day, this country can start preparing itself for the worst. What is it about my fellow Namibians that you can’t see the writing on the wall? Do you want to wait until it’s too late, like Zimbabwe? Don’t let yourselves be fooled!* SOMETIMES one wonders whether Hon Jerry Ekandjo understands his own reckless statements. If he thinks there was an election in Zim, he surely confirms where Namibia is heading to with such calibre. Swapo congress delegates, is the country lacking in quality leaders to elect?* MR Jerry Ekandjo must know that people who died in Lubango dungeons were not killed by whites, but by their Swapo comrades. We still have brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers who disappeared, but we know that they were not killed by whites. He must not try to confuse the nation. Always Mr Ekandjo doesn’t have a constructive point at all.* MR Ekandjo, it is simply unacceptable what you say about us whites, generalising. It is idiotic, cheap vote sucking and it should be way below the intellect of a Minister of all people. What do you actually want – a second Zimbabwe? Why don’t you go and spend a few weeks there and see the suffering of the ordinary man. Grow up!JERRY Ekandjo, a second Robert Mugabe?* HON Jerry Ekandjo’s speeches are always the same hatred, colonial past, Boers – the list goes on. Nothing about development and progress – no wonder he fails in all his ministerial positions.* SOMETIMES one wonders whether Hon Jerry Ekandjo understands his own reckless statements. If he thinks there was an election in Zim, he surely confirms where Namibia is heading to with such calibre. Swapo congress delegates, is the country lacking in quality leaders to elect?Crunch Issue* NOW we have to view the new State House on hungry stomachs and dream about it when we sleep in our shacks and look for food in dustbins. What a joke.* PLEASE consider a daily column on tips to save money and make what we have go further. Thanks. – Good idea. Thank you. We’ll see what we can do. If any member of the public has some tips they’d like to share, please SMS them to news@namibian.com.na – News Editor* SASOL in South Africa makes fuel out of coal, not oil. Higher oil prices should therefore have little effect on the price of South Africa’s and Namibia’s fuel prices. But then again, Mugabe is still in power. Nothing makes sense anymore.Zimbabwe* NOW that Swapo has congratulated [President Robert] Mugabe and his cronies, can we expect that the same treatment will be meted out to the opposition in Namibia, because there is another wind of change blowing.* MR Mugabe should step down, Mr Charamba should withdraw his statements and UN Security Council should ;ass strong resolutions for negotiations to take place.* SHAME on you whites, leave Robert Mugabe alone. He is a true leader and a son of Africa.* MUGABE has won. Against who? Against the whole Zimbabwean nation. How shameless!* I AM sure people of Zimbabwe did not vote for Mugabe. For whoever they voted, the result would be Mugabe. The announcement of him winning was pre-determined.* PEOPLE like the South African foreign minister must learn to take the bull by the horns. What solution can MDC and Zanu-PF possibly find if the only problem there is Mugabe at the helm of Zanu-PF? Why does it look like most SADC leaders are heavily indebted to the culprit?* WESTERN or African, Mugabe warns, especially neighbours “Back off or be prepared to fight!” This is your fallen hero comrades! In And From The Regions* A STREAM that was connecting the Linyanti and Chobe rivers was blocked by the Botswana government for environmental reasons. Why so? The area is now dry but no action has been taken. – Johanny K* NOT only our village, Enghandja, but most of the neighbouring villages as well, have never tasted tap water. Please respond to this issue before December 2008. The water we give you as visitors is not from the village. We do not hate anybody but are tired. Before Independence and still now is the same.* WHAT happened to the thousands of N$ that we got from the rock concert that was held at the Spitzkoppe community rest camp? Why is there no proof of that money being paid into the bank account and why are the registration forms and receipt book missing?* WILL someone go to Oshivelo and see the soldiers’ barracks and toilets. Can Anyone Help?* I CANNOT get an Agribank loan because my property is at Maltahoehe. Why? Please explain.* WHAT is the dress code for MPs in Parliament? * WHY are some members who are staying in the Grootfontein (Army) Base getting housing allowances?* CAN the Ministry of Transport tell the public why Natis is under-staffed?* CAN you please tell me where one can obtain truck driving training in Namibia?General* WHEN will Windhoek have a location called Robben Island with the street names of Namibian prisoners. It’s really about time. – Concerned* IT is not only in Zimbabwe, but also here in Namibia there is a land crisis. It is very sensitive to see the senior citizens without grazing land in their communal land. Simply because the land is fenced by elite people. Is that not corruption?* THIS world is a crazy place, it’s quite amazing, the US having had restrictions on [former South African President Nelson] Mandela, what a disgrace! He has been a symbol of peace ever since day one.* HE was a brother, that’s who Chris Hawala was, as you said he was the vice president [of Nanso]. So Issa if you don’t have anything to talk about, I suggest you let him rest in peace.* THE current NDF recruitment should be considered null and void. Too much [alleged] corruption.Bouquets And Brickbats* CONGRATULATIONS to the governor of Caprivi Region and the Mayor of Katima for initiating the traditional leaders’ forum. None of the previous local/regional political leaders, neither from the national leadership has ever achieved uniting the four traditional authorities. I urge the traditional leaders to embrace the forum and continue talking to each other for the sake of development and unity.* EENHANA Town Council you are bringing the town up. Thank you for the Expo. You did a great job.* I JUST would like to congratulate Hon (Henk) Mudge for standing up to challenge the Air Namibia (mis)management for their poor performance in procedures and many other things. It’s not about his relative or racism, it’s about doing the right thing and being fair as managers of a parastatal, and not unfairly dismissing an experienced crew member that does not deserve to be fired. Please Mr Mudge stand up for us with no voices and do what’s right, regardless of skin colour. – Concerned senior crew member* IT is a credit to the fire service that the Windhoek fire station always looks so neat* SAMPSON crit of Bohlke exhibition: you displayed your lack of insight and were nasty to both artists and art buyers in this piece, perhaps not a good idea when they are both fundamental to the success of your new galleryPerspectives* I AM an ordinary Namibian who reads The Namibian newspaper every day. I find Tjiurimo Hengari’s Post-Scriptum every Friday very educational. It offers a fresh, sobering perspective to the debate on Namibia and Africa.* THE Post-Scriptum and editorial were spot on once again. They came at a time when the PM is asking the opposition to withdraw a discussion on Zimbabwe. What can this be that they are so keen on hiding away from the public domain that has not yet been made public? Zimbabwe agreed to an election which had been far from free and fair. Please Namibia, let’s call a spade a spade and teach our kids to know that truth is truth and that there is nothing like in between. What happened in Zimbabwe is a sham and not an election. It does not require a professor to decipher. If we are in a true democracy they should just say it or else the credibility of the opposition will come into the limelight. – Concerned AfricanDisconnections* HI I just want to congratulate MTC for moving to a bigger spacious mobile home at Otjiwarongo. What a beauty. Thank you. – Dockiest* ABOUT Disconnections, it tickles one to read of MTC, whose service got the message there in the first place.* MTC why don’t you sponsor a comedy for one of the TV stations. There is not one between them.* CAN NBC-TV please explain why religious programmes have been removed on Sunday mornings? How can you expect the society to improve when you remove moral values from national television? Isn’t it enough that it has been removed from our schools?* IN The Namibian we find programmes of other TV channels. Now where can we find GTV’s programme?Sporting* WE need a tactician and moulder, motivator, and result-driven coach [for the Brave Warriors]. No excuses please.* I DON’T think the coach is the problem if the players cannot play. Two coaches in one year … ? Hallo!!! I don’t believe it. Brave Warriors please … shape up or ship out.* WHY must we get a foreign coach? What about the local coaches who are good but do not get the chance show what they can do. – Angry SupporterFood For Thought * BELIEVE it or not, the unemployment situation in Namibia is a result of ownership of the market.
