* IN the beginning there was one Namibia and one nation. Today there is one Namibia, half a nation. Do we have no-go zones in Namibia? Please let us unite like one man’s children.
Food For Thought* OK, there are expatriates, ex-combatants, returnees, struggle kids, born-frees … Can someone tell me what the kids, whose parents left them in the country and went into exile, are called and entitled to …Bouquets And Brickbats* MINISTER (Joel) Kaapanda, thanks for what you’ve tried to do. Is it not too little, too late? Why did you not speak at the start of the campaign?* WAY to go Magreth [Nunuhe], excellent article! I am voicing my disgust by voting against corruption this month. It’s sad what will become of Namibia if I don’t. * MAGRETH Nunuhe gave the answer to her question herself. ‘If the mother and father steal money …. what kind of a house will it be?’ What she did not say though, but which is obvious from her example and very symptomatic of our Namibian reality, is that it is the parents who are the biggest thieves! * ONE Africa TV, please stick to your schedule. We want to see the soapy ‘Scandal’ like you advertised please.Politics* EVERY day I see these old school political parties in Namibia without any direction, be it the ruling party or the opposition parties. The fact remains, they have got nothing to offer, I am getting bored.- TiaElection Fever* THE nation wants the ECN to inform us about the level and scale of violence and intimidation where troublemakers should be suspended from the democratic election process, or the election itself declared neither free nor fair. Save Namibia from dangerous hypocrites. * NAMIBIANS, please open up your eyes and start thinking out of the box. How sure are we that our safety is a number one priority on November 27 and 28? I wonder why these people are so violent in the campaigns. What will happen on the voting days? Who wants to find him/herself at the receiving end of these crazy people? * I WANT to vote but my registration card got lost. ECN give us a last chance, even one day.- You can contact the ECN and organise a copy. – Newsdesk* THIS is the first time I am going to vote and the violence that is currently going on makes me scared. Can the UN be involved for free and fair elections.- Worried JU General* TO ensure equitable distribution of national resources and balanced development, let the 13 regions become main shareholders (rather than a few who’s whos) in Namibia’s major economic entities like petroleum, minerals and other natural resources. Namibian government: Yes we can, from 2010 onwards.* PLEASE Government, can you give all civil servants their bonus tax free? We are tired of taxed bonuses. A bonus is given once a year and it is there to help with some of our financial problems once a year, why should it be taxed? – KGS, Nkurenkuru* I WANT to advise all the drivers of long-distance buses to pay their traffic fines, especially the one for Karibib and Usakos. I was stranded twice in Karibib and once in Usakos just because the driver was arrested and locked up!* THE new flights of Air Namibia to Lusaka are a waste. On October 25 our airline started flying to Lusaka via Johannesburg. Until now only between six and 15 passengers have been carried. Since these flights started two weeks ago our airline carried 79 passengers for the whole flights. Why should they fly five times a week? Why not fly three times for now and sees how it goes? Dear Government look into this issue seriously. On November 20 Air Namibia will start flying to Ghana via Johannesburg. No passengers are booked. Please come and rescue us … * CLOSE down all casinos in Namibia. They are evil. They are turning good Namibians into crazy addicted players who lose every last cent and respect. How dare the Government allow such evil in our beloved Namibia? Maybe because the fat cats are profiting? We want change now.* ANTI fake hair, just let others’ hair be. I’m sure you relax, die, perm or had one at one point. If you are male, stick to guy hair things because we are comfy with our fakes!City Fathers Please …* A total of 2 500 taxis in Windhoek? That is an outrageous number. No wonder they are out of control and keep thinking they own the roads. We need better planning from the decision-makers who only react when there is a crisis.Education* EACH adult person should be able to assist teachers and parents with children with a tendency to sneak away from schools during school hours.* INTERNATIONAL University of Management, please give students their money for loans from the ministry. Why are you taking so long? Take a good example from other universities. – Tired studentThe Good Book* EDUCATION Ministry can you please bring back Bible studies in school? Some of our kids don’t go to church to hear the word of God. Maybe it would change their behaviour.* UNAM, why are we writing exams so late? Imagine one starts writing at 18h00 and it is a three-hour paper. Not all of us have cars and we cannot rely on taxis because not all taxi drivers are trustworthy! Please look into this matter urgently!!* DEAR Unam student, stand at the SRC president’s office and ask him to motivate for open halls at exam time, else pull him out of that office. Problem solved.- Uncle Paul* PLEASE Education Minister, why are Grade 10 and 12 question papers being collected after writing the exams? Who pays for them, the learners or teachers? Please they must let us leave with our question papers.- A concerned learnerAnd Justice For All* GUNS don’t kill people, people kill people. After law-abiding citizens are disarmed, criminals will still have unlicensed guns to rob and kill. Punish criminals severely that use guns in crime. If Parliament can pass a law that the penalty for stock theft can be up to 20 years, why not for criminals using guns in crime? In And From The Regions* THE rainy season is approaching and all the residents of Ondangwa can do is pray and hope that it is not worse than the last one. The Ondangwa Town Council on the other hand has done nothing to prevent a repeat of the last catastrophe. If the Council could only learn from what the owners of the Trees for the World nursery, just a stone’s throw away from the Town Council are doing, then the problem will be done with. It only requires simple engineering solutions as Ondangwa is not affected by the floods coming from Angola.* MARIENTAL district graders are not roadworthy. RA and ACC wake up.* PLEASE we need at least Shoprite, Pick n Pay or Woermann Brock at Grootfontein. We used to struggle especially on pay day. The only OK food shop used to be very full and out of stock. Grootfontein is populated with Government workers: Police and Prison officers, teachers, the biggest military base, National Youth Service. And local farmers. And now newly-relocated children of struggle. Please help.- Martha* WE are experiencing water problems at Opuwo Hospital every day. Patients have to go outside the facility to get water to bath, it is very difficult. What is Opuwo Town Council doing?- Concerned Opuwo residentNBC* WITHOUT fear or favour or fear of contradictions, it is sheer ‘lunacy’ for NBC to dictate what is to be watched on NBC TV and what is to be spoken about on National Radio during ‘Open Line’ until the election is over. By implication, NBC Management is challenging chapter three of the Namibian Constitution. – Action Kateli, Land of the Brave* IS the NBC a national broadcaster or private entity? How come they don’t want people to mention political parties on ‘Open Line’ simply because we are facing elections? Are they also going to stop screening politicians who mention party A or B at their rallies simply because they are afraid of the nation being divided? This is the joke of the day. * NBC … again. 20h00 News (November 11). We could hear those guys talking in the background. Telling each other to shhh!, because they ‘think’ the people could hear them. Man, disastrous!- Muneeb* TWO weeks before the election, NBC must organise a platform for a presidential debate for all eligible political candidates. This will allow us as voters to see the best president for 2010. It is democratic to choose the best president for Namibia based on intellect, professionalism, diplomacy and one with an iron hand to make this lovely country prosper.- Ronzeo* NBC please Mr Matthew Gowaseb, we enjoy that programme ‘Ketute’ very much. It educates, informs, gives solutions to problems and provides news about things we do not get from NBC. It really brings news to the people on the ground. – Horongo
Point Of View* THERE’S a reader who complained about the headline ‘A loota continua’ in the Tuesday edition. Well, I believe in journalism scribes coin words to juicily suit the matter being written about. It referred to the looting of our resources that has reached alarming rates, and not to the (liberation) struggle. Service Please* FNB Outapi and Oshakati branches, please try to improve your service, especially now we are facing the December holiday when many people are travelling to the North.* THIS is to MTC. I want to know what I must do with 300 SMSes which I cannot use.- Oom L* WHAT’S wrong with MTC this month? There’s no Cellchat at the MTC office at Rundu. Please guys, do your work, you are paid each and every month.- Concerned resident* WHY are taxis N$15 to Rocky Crest while there’s a taxi rank? Taxi drivers are taking us for a ride. Nabta, please do something.* AGRIBANK at Katima Mulilo is dormant. I applied for a loan in May from this branch. I submitted all required documentation and signed all contracts. Seven months down the line, no payout has been made to my supplier yet. My loan repayment starts this month. How will I start repayments if the loan has not yet been paid to my supplier? – Sepo* AS a long-time client of Bank Windhoek, I’m bitterly disappointed by the way the Oshakati branch renders service to its clients. Imagine one queuing up for 30 minutes as the only client waiting to be attended to. The few staff members available at the branch’s sales department are mostly busy walking up and down or on the telephone. If you don’t believe me, go to BW Oshakati branch during lunch hour and see how individual staff members are rushing to take their lunch while clients are waiting to be served. Branch manager please train your staff or you will lose clients moving their accounts to other banks for better service.- Unhappy BW client* PIET’S Biltong at Okahandja, please put toilet paper in your toilets! Or, when a customer asks for the toilet key, give the roll of toilet paper with the key! * LEGIT Swakopmund needs training in customer care. We only want service. Please don’t bring your stress to work.* THE NamPost team, please provide more counters and staff at Namica Supermarket in Okuryangava! One has to queue for three to four hours. – TIA, WindhoekHealth Matters* I AM appalled by certain doctors who choose not to attend to their clients after hours. They also don’t do any hospital admissions. If you, as their patient, get sick after hours, then they tell you to look for another doctor. I mean, how ethical and caring! Please leave the profession and rather go and run day-care centres.* WHAT does the Ministry of Health think about the non-availability of a psychiatric allowance for nurses and doctors working in psychiatric departments both in Windhoek and Oshakati? Much of the time staff are beaten, bitten and assaulted by patients. What do you want to hear before you do something? Death? Dr Kamwi a danger allowance is the least you can do for them, they are at a higher risk.- Ward 16 staff, IHO
In And From The Regions* TIME and again, I’ve complained about the street lights in Safari suburb in Rundu, but to no avail from the authorities (local authority councillors). We’re calling upon you for the security and safety of our kids. Don’t you care for the community that you’re serving?* AT Ondangwa we do not have political violence, we live in harmony. Even most botsotsos have stopped robbing and started earning a decent income. We thank God for that.* MAXES offices in Oshakati! Stop smoking in your office please. That smell is bad. Respect your customers please. * MINISTER Kamwi we want you to go and visit the clinics at the border like Ongenga, Omungwelume, Ohaingu, etc. An ambulance is also needed to take the patients to the hospitals at Oshakati, Engela and Okatana.Taxi Talk* I JUST want to say something about taxis. We farmers from out of town sometimes find ourselves in the wrong lanes when we drive in Windhoek. It is not the ‘other people’ who patiently give you a chance to get into the right lane without hooting, showing you the finger or swearing at your driving ability. Taxis also do good, but no one wants to see it. I want to say thank you through the media.
Labour Issues* PLEASE, I need advice. In Namibia people are working on contracts for 10 years. What does the Labour Act say?Give us a break* TRANSPORT industry please think of long-distance drivers. They should get off every second month. People treat us like slaves or as if we are their property. If you ask for time off, they tell you to resign if you don’t want to work. They don’t even pay for Sundays or public holidays.Lost And Found* I FOUND Blasius Xoagub driver’s licence. Please SMS me at 081-218-2733.* LOST passport Tatenda Stanley Dodzo. If found please call 081-405-2509.* PAULUS Haindongo has lost his ID, military ID, medical aid card, FNB card, Standard Bank card and driver’s licence. Please call 081-122-2124 or 081-280-1416 if found.
