SMSes Of The Day
•THERE is something seriously wrong when Namibian-produced vegetables are exported to South Africa. Was it not the idea behind Etunda irrigation project to secure food for Namibia? Instead the shops are full of expensive imported vegetables we cannot afford! Please government, do something about this!
•THE deadly collision over the long weekend highlights the need to act decisively in order to prevent similar accidents in the future. Without pre-empting the cause, Namibians should take a look at the way we drive. Too many drivers are offensive and very few are defensive. It is no surprise that tragic accidents are common in Namibia. Sadly not many offenders are charged and convicted. The only person convicted is Harry Simon yet many people die on our roads each day. We should show zero tolerance for reckless driving. The laws of the roads must be obeyed. We should be tough even if it means suspending or revoking licences. Enough is enough.

Food For Thought
•TYPICAL of the fat cats! When the BoN increases its repo rate, commercial banks are quick to up their prime rates but when BoN reduces its repo, the man in the street must wait for up to two weeks before the banks adjust their rates. I guess the banks actually do want to repossess our homes and cars!
Walking The Talk
•I WONDER if some of our leaders will join the march against corruption wholeheartedly!
• THE march against corruption is pathetic. Some of the people concerned are the same people turning a blind eye to the corruption happening in our country.

Bouquets And Brickbats
• WE salute the Unam SRC. You guys are the best team the university ever had. We the students are behind you.
• PLEASE Tebs (NBC) if all people are complaining about the way you handle the Open Line, why don’t you change? You are losing respect from people who respected you, just because you are defending Swapo and Swapo does not recognise you. Show your true colours if you are there to speak on behalf of Swapo, otherwise just make a way for those that will do the job neutrally. – Makove
• TEBS Xulu is blatantly biased and an embarrassment to the NBC.
General
•CAN someone help me out. Is it not corruption or fraud if you use your friend’s or girlfriend’s Grade 10 certificate to get a supervisor’s position in a foreign government office? – Concerned jobless Namibian – That is exactly what corruption is. – Newsdesk
•CAN someone tell me what more is in the partnership agreement signed between DBN & China DB? – The memorandum of understanding signed between the two development banks allows for co-operation in the financing infrastructure, skills development and research on the role and significance of development finance. Projects that will be financed will be selected on their viability and development impact. – Newsdesk
• I WOULD like to ask NBC TV management if it’s possible to change News Review on Sunday from 11h00 to 14h00, because some of us are at church at 11h00. Please! Thank you. – FH, Kapolo Edundja
•THE military museum at Okahandja is becoming a white elephant. Please do something.
•THE most abused word in this country is ‘having’. You hear people saying they are ‘having’ a problem, a car. Even more irritating, some will say they ‘are having’ a diploma. Someone please save the grammar. English communication skills on TV and radio can help.
•I STOPPED watching NBC TV. I get my news off the Internet, not only local sites, including The Namibian, but international media. For entertainment I prefer watching DVDs in my own time and of my own choosing to the politicised NBC!
Politics
•CAN tate (Sam) Nujoma please go and rest instead of inciting hatred and xenophobia against foreigners! This is not the way a leader speaks: ranting and raving! His tirade against charismatic churches was especially shocking! Does he not know that churches provide the moral fibre that we so sorely lack?
•I AM a Namibian health professional in the public sector. The statement by the Founding President about foreigners in Namibia is very disappointing. I am working with many non-Angolans saving many Namibian lives. Colleagues sorry for this, let us keep to the oath we have taken.
•I DON’T know what (Founding President) Sam Nujoma is talking about. All I know is that when you visit someone’s house you respect them. But from what I can see the Angolans don’t have respect for us. That should change!
•WE Namibians have to make sure that our country does not turn the Zimbabwean way! The ball is in our hands now and not later!

Running The Show
•I JUST don’t get it! Why does the Veterans’ Board go to Swakopmund every month to conduct its business in a top hotel there. Luxury and S&T? At whose expense? Meetings in lodges and hotels?

Children Of The Struggle
•I AM also a child of the struggle but I have done something for myself. Why is it so difficult for those camping at the Swapo offices do the same? Guys, pull up your socks, you are giving us a bad name.
Education
•HOW can student bursaries be late every year and the Poly and Unam refuse the students every year and blame the Ministry of Education every year, who blames the Ministry of Finance every year? When will this circus stop? Are we some sort of banana republic or Namibia? When will everybody get their act together?- Puzzled
Health Matters
•CAN the Ministry of Health hand out pamphlets at public places e.g. supermarkets and in newspapers detailing symptoms of swine flu and what to do in the unlikely event of contraction. A simple cartoon will do. And play an advert in between Camilla or something. Even a concerned civil society organisation can do it. Let’s be proactive not reactive.
•WOW. The SMS from the community counsellor on Thursday’s SMS page. Is that how you counsel someone who has tested positive and is in denial?- Wow.
•DEAR community counsellor, I thought you would make use of the opportunity to explain the different HIV tests available like Elisa or PCRs. This will clear misunderstandings which perhaps lead to people living in denial. Just say which test you used or just say you don’t know. There is no need to be so defensive.
•PEOPLE are coming at 07h00 to be helped because they are sick, but still sitting there up to 19h00.
•CAN the Minister of Finance and medical practitioners, tell us members of Psemas why we have to be at the receiving end of their squabbles in that some practitioners refuse us treatment; and to the Dental and Medical Council why should officials from the Ministry of Finance access my medical info with my practitioner. What happened to doctor-patient confidentiality? What should I do if that is true?
Service Please
•CAN Cell One please lower its cost on the wireless Internet. Getting an e-mail done costs about N$50 to N$100. Please lower your rates.
•MTC what has happened to our lovely MTC cell service. Getting connected to false numbers and money deducted when no one answers?

Labour
•CAN the Ministry of Defence and Safety try to recruit the youth who’re suffering on the streets but matriculated. Some of them have been there for many years! – Leon
Going Loco
•THE CEO and his board should apologise to Namibian taxpayers for throwing our money into this bottomless pit with the buying of the locomotives from China. Allow (Titus) Haimbili to continue with investigations and stop protecting pals at the expense of the nation!
Response On Maintenance
• The Legal Assistance Centre is able to provide the public with information about claiming maintenance through materials such as fact sheets, pamphlets, guides in English and other Namibian languages and a cartoon. Please visit our website:www.lac.org.na or call one of our offices (main office number: 061 223356) for more information.
In And From the Regions
• CAN somebody let us know why the upgrade of the Oshakati-Omungwelume road to a bitumen standard stopped. Machines are de-established to Okavango. Are the funds finished or what?
• COULD you please give me an answer on the next question. Why do the town councils stick to their offices for life? Does that mean that in the whole country there are no other people who are capable to serve as town councillors or what does it mean?
• ONDANGWA Town Council, how can you allow people to have a plot for more than 10 years without building a house? Allocate them to people who urgently need them. They are ever dirty and bring snakes and mosquitoes to our houses. Please! – H
•NHE is building houses in Katima town using one brick. Is that the new way of building houses for poor people? Come on NHE we need strong houses. – Matomola
•THE road condition between Karibib and Kalkfeld is deteriorating, I mean as a driver you are forced to drive in the middle of the road because of the potholes on the edges of the road. Imagine if one has to drive at night? RCC please do something and don’t wait for reminders like in the case of Rundu Divundu road.- Concerned road user
• NAMIBIANS when will you wake up? The matchboxes con game used by criminals is back again especially at Tsumeb. Recently I travelled from Windhoek to the North and when we made a stop at Tsumeb some people from the same bus fell victims. Some lost as much as N$400. What shocked me even more was that some women were accomplices, by encouraging people to take part. At least one woman tried to caution those tricked but she was threatened by a knife-wielding scumbag.
