SMS of the Day : Wednesday

* FUEL price hikes: Please investigate what percentages of the fuel price go to the oil company and to the Government. Or is this one of the best-kept secrets in RSA and Namibia?

Food for thought * LUCKY escape for five after air crash in city. Next time it could crash into a shopping centre, a school in Hochlandpark or Windhoek West or a residential area. These recent accidents may be warning signs. This is the third time in six months that a plane has crashed after take-off from Eros airport. Move the airfield. Prevention is better than cure!* SWAPO stops RDP rally, Zanu-PF cracks down on MDC supporters. What’s the difference? What a shame. What is happening to our country? Is this the beginning?Zimbabwean Pride* ZIMBOS be proud of Robert! He has created Zim trillionaires. Inflation good at 165 000 per cent. Unemployment at 90 per cent. We have the luxury to use our currency for tissue paper. Let’s be proud of these heroic achievement comrades.Swapo-RDP clash* CAN Swapo tell the nation the truth as to what do they mean when they talk of democracy? Is the Saturday incident in Okuryangava part of what they term democracy? Shall we believe that the party has really lost vision? – Cwaha* BY stopping the RDP from holding a rally, Swapo shows intolerance, and must remember that there is no peace without tolerance. RDP must continue to create a culture of democracy and tolerance in the country for our children. – ElL Vaquerito* I KNOW Swapo as a mature and credible party well known for its democratic principles. It is because of that, I would like to appeal to President Pohamba not to allow certain elements to tarnish the party’s image by engaging in undemocratic practices. RDP is not a threat to Swapo, but will and can be if Swapo engages in such undemocratic acts.* I AM a Swapo supporter and I will remain in this political party no matter what will be the cost. But I can say some of my fellow Swapo supporters need to be taught the constitutional dos and don’ts, because they are tarnishing the name of the party. We don’t have to physically fight other parties’ members or supporters, let us do it in a professional way as is required by the law. Let us avoid conflicts among ourselves (Namibians).* AS a full member of Swapo I am ashamed of what happened on Saturday it shows me many of our countrymen need political education.* SWAPO leadership is to be blamed for this violence because even the Head of State used to call people names. Now it’s up to him to tell his comrades to stop the violence.* SWAPO brought independence and democracy. However, it doesn’t understand nor has it mastered democracy. Maybe Swapo’s party leadership must teach their unruly and blind loyalists about multipartyism.* LOOKS like people are turning Swapo into Zanu-PF. You will regret it Mr Mwinga, sooner than Zim did!* I AM a Swapo supporter and it seems like Swapo and RDP have got issues. What our Swapo men/women did in Katutura’s Okuryangava township is a complete shame to our party Swapo. – KG* THE riot that almost broke out on Saturday between RDP and Swapo supporters shouted “Power to Nujoma”. Shame! My fellow citizens – there is a new president should you have missed that one!* THIS is a political change not a threat: please accept the changes, Swapo leadership!* WHAT is democracy? I think our nation needs to be educated about the Namibian Constitution. Leaders of political parties must do this. Tolerance is needed when comes to political affiliation.Belated birthday greetings* HAPPY birthday to the Father of the Namibian Nation, tatekulu Sam Shafishuna Nujoma. I wish you a strong life and more years to come. – Cde David Kambala* I JUST want to wish our founding father a blessed and happy returns, Strength and good health … Dr Sam Nujoma we love you! – KallaGeneral* I AM rather worried that the Government is going to look after the shipwreck. I am convinced that looting will take place. Lots of gold and silver …* AS long as affirmative action and unqualified mariners are in charge of the maritime affairs this country, we will not make any progress. The rot in the maritime affairs of Namibia starts with the DMA and the Maritime School as there’s none qualified to justify being in a position of authority. The less I say about Namport the better, not even one port captain in 18 years of Independence.* YOU hardly get anything done in the Ministry of Lands and Resettlement if you are not connected, they will first delay till someone intervenes and then they will hate you for reporting them, which is not the case.* IT is indeed encouraging and exemplary to see our national leaders openly undertaking the HIV test. But then the effort is useless when the results are not publicly disclosed irrespective of the outcome. – Herculano* ALLOW me to view my concern in your newspaper. There are some fishing companies which do not respect their workers, where they only consider you when they want their work to be done! But they don’t care for the future of the workers! We want the Government to hear our concern and rescue us [from] this sinking vessel! – Ndahalaokushiva* OH! shame on you the management of the Namibia Wholesale and Retail Workers Union. How do you expect your officials/organisers to perform if you pay them low salaries compared to what you pay your cleaner and your office clerk?* WE are concerned about a health worker here in Oshivelo who, when something happens, even at midnight, you have to wake her up at her house. How can a nurse who is on duty sleep at her house?* MANY fishing companies applied for fishing rights with the promise of social upliftment. They however deliberately ignore this obligation. What is the Minister of Fisheries doing to ensure that these companies honour their commitments to the communities? Why not compel a certain percentage of dividends annually through the traditional authorities for example. Why are these rights not rotated after every five years to those who never had the opportunity or will it again only benefit a selected few?Deal With It, Please!* ATTENTION ACC. Seems our policing forces are adopting “rest of Africa” habits. If stopped, you have a choice of fine, jail or ‘koeldrankgeld’. Welcome to Africa.* I WANT tate Noa of ACC to send investigators to all 13 regions to investigate senior civil servants who occupy GRN houses, but they get housing allowances of more than N$40 000 on top of their fat salaries.* BISHOP Kameeta now is the time to step up to the plate and show your muscle and fire those implicated in an alleged shameful crime reported in an English weekly with immediate effect and probe the scam. These people put into positions of trust only betray the poor congregation and the respectable name of the Bishop. They must be exposed and dealt with accordingly. I beg for no mercy that would be white-collar criminals operating in the church will think twice before ripping of the poor congregation.* I HAVE never experienced excessive noise like that from the tented church on Clemens Kapuuo Street next to Katutura Community radio. We no longer rest after work, nor listen to news. The church is making excessive noise every day. Please City of Windhoek, remove the church from the residential area.On And From The Regions* WHY should the Government enforce small-scale farms, it seems we San people don’t have rights on our own land at Tsumkwe .* SWAPO government, your people in Enghandja village are suffering so much, these people are your core voters and that village was a war zone but no clean water and health facility. So consider the teardrops that are flowing from their eyes!Bouquets And Brickbats* THANK you Hon Dienda for fighting for the debts of the pensioners with the Windhoek Municipality. They had to listen to you. Keep it up.* THANK you The Namibian newspaper for printing pictures of tatekulu Sam Nuujoma on his birthday. At least you prove not to be the imperialist newspaper as claimed. What a way to advertise!* NSHR thank you very much for a job well done, you were the only source of light when the world seemed to be dark. Keep up the good work and keep on fighting for our rights. I will take my hat off for you, Mr ya Nangolo, and the whole team anytime.* I AM a non-Kavango living in Rundu, Kavango. United Stars, a team from Rundu, won the Hansa Cup last Saturday and I’m very disappointed seeing The Namibian not covering the event highlights. I only read The Namibian and can’t tell about the other papers! Is the cup so low profile or is it the team? Funny enough I saw Man United fully covered in all its colours and glory! – Lite-Rite* THANKS to The Namibian Sport for having brought the 2007-2008 EPL soccer to us. Please do so next season again. Manchester fans let’s celebrate all the way to Moscow. Tough luck Chelsea, try again next time.Education* HGTS in Swakopmund will welcome Nigerian science volunteers this term, according to the headmaster. Please make sure that they are not used for us and the Grade 10s. There are only few weeks before we write the August and Oct-Nov exams and want the syllabi to be completed in time. We don’t want to waste our time by struggling to understand their English. Science subjects are very difficult, and what if we add Nigerian English? Inspector please intervene to assure this does no happen.* MINISTRY of Education please do something about unemployed teachers who are graduating at colleges every year. I think the government is also losing money for paying loans to people who are not given a job in return. Why are you recruiting student teachers every year if there are no posts to occupy? Do somethingConsumed By Service Woes* I AM a resident at Ongwediva and do my shopping at Mini Market (the old Fysal) but my problem is the behaviour of the manager. He is not good at friendship with the customer. My dear, please change your behaviour.* THE body corporate at David Court should really think of pulling up their socks before they lose a lot of tenants. The one gate is constantly broken and at the same side the interlocks are falling apart. Will the body corporate pay for any theft and damage to cars?* NAMPOST, please do something about your delivery service! As I’m the occasional user of the service, I’m worried about the way the delivery guys are handling the sent items. They apparently throw things while unloading, and it has even resulted in the complete breakdown of my brand-new N$4 000 laptop. I’m appealing to the CEO to do something about the situation! – SS Gowaseb, Khorixas* CAN something be done to MLR, they are more on personal issues instead of service deliveryRhythm Nation* SUNNY BOY please we the supporters, we want to hear from you. What is wrong with you, we want something at the end of the year please, an award.* LUCKY escape for five after air crash in city.
