SMS of the Day : Friday

* WHY are some Namibians scared of democracy? Is it not democratic to form a political party? Why is it called mushrooming or tribal politics? If a tribe feels left out, what is wrong if it forms a party to represent it? Namibians go ahead as long as you are in line with the law of the land.

Food For Thought * IN an independent Namibia (if it may be termed that), the unequal application of justice and fairness has led to the destruction of the fibre of moral values through the creation of enforced prostitution guided by ethnic racism in places like Karasburg and the rest of the South. The Government must urgently prove the opposite.* THERE is not one single ‘nie-blanke’ ethnic group in the mainstream of the national economy. Any suggestion that a section of the Namibian non-white population is marginalised by its own black government and excluded from the main stream of the national economy, borders on ethnic incitement. Namibians need not fight one another for what we collectively do not have.Politics* CAN the Swapo leadership call SPYL [Swapo Party Youth League] to order. These boys have a mission to make sure you are out. If you don’t believe me, history will tell.* LET it be noted for the record that there people with agendas behind the SPYL loudmouths.Bats Out Of Hell* I AM the owner of the orange Caddy that drives like hell in Okahandja and if you have a problem with my driving confront me, don’t go to the papers!.* THE person who drove GRN 3803, a white Nissan double-cab, must please realise that this vehicle must be driven on the tarred road and not over the pavement because you don’t want to wait for other cars in front of you, like you did this morning, Tuesday, July 22. Please treat the assets of the GRN in a prudent manner.Recycling Response* MICHAEL, about recycling newspapers: also check with your local schools, pre-schools and kindergartens, often they can use old newspapers for art or craft projects.Uniform Issues* AH excuse me, is there anyone else who wants to fill the vacant positions in the Police, because we the NamPol officers are on our way out to greener pastures.* THE once excellent and effective CID unit of NamPol Otjiwarongo has become so ineffective that it is only solving minor cases.* DOGS are just running up and down in Susanna Street, Khomasdal. What are the City Police doing?* THE Namibian navy members are professionals (specialists), and the Government spent millions to train them, yet the members are resigning every day, going for greener pastures. Why? Because they are underpaid. General Shalli, make a plan or there will be no more navy. – Concerned SailorGeneral* AS an estate agency owner I strongly feel that a lot of foreign estate agencies are coming into our market, that means you have interest rates on the one hand and competition on the other. Why would we take bread away from our own people and give it to foreigners. Why? We need to carefully investigate foreign investors. What are they giving the country and what are they taking out of the country and what damage do they cause to our people in the long run. We can sell houses,we don’t need people to do it for us. – Lionel* MINISTRY of Regional and Local Government and Housing, mayors are doing fly-by-night development plans to remain in office because of one-year terms. Councillors without benefits feel degraded.* THE surplus distribution debacle at Roessing Mine needs international intervention as there is obviously no one in Namibia who can solve the riddle. Is there anyone out there who can guide us please?Zimbabwe* THE loser takes it all! I can’t understand in what capacity [President Robert] Mugabe negotiating with [Movement for Democratic Change leader] Morgan Tsvangirai. Shame on [President Hifikepunye] Pohamba and his so-called SADC and AU colleagues for ignoring the will of the Zimbabwean people. Shame on [South African President Thabo] Mbeki’s marriage with the illegitimate dictator. Always hand in hand and in love!In And From The Regions* GOVERNMENT and influential leaders of our great Karas Region must not ignore realities and facts of the region. It is a known fact, leaders do not consult at all with stakeholders regarded as the victims of this unfortunate situation. It’s not that one does not appreciate current efforts but just involve us at the grassroots to make things fair open and honest. We are aware about some fishing quotas our traditional leaders are benefiting from, without the communities, and we don’t want to see the same situation. Our leaders must become honest linkages and being influential does not necessarily advocate true and honest representation. Our former teachers and principals, who played very dynamic roles in making the South part of the liberation struggle, lost direction and stopped consulting and became politicians. One school has already lost its status, which shows a lack of co-ordination. Money, confusion rule us.* DIRECTOR of the Ministry of Health in Ohangwena Region please look into your salary office.* CAN the Governor of the Erongo Region please explain why we have no universities or polytechnics at Swakopmund. If Oshakati has one then Swakop must also have. In the view of a lot of people Swakop is more developed. Please do something. We are suffering. – PT* WHEN is the village Oshipala in Omundaungilo going to get water. We are suffering as if we are not part and parcel of this Government. We travel 11 km to fetch water and for medical purposes as well. What are the councillors in Ohangwena region doing? Tap water ends in Eenhana, from there up to Okongo people depend on wells where there are wells with their animals. Governor please respond. That VAT* LET us be informed please. There is no VAT on mahangu! We just like to be sensational!* TO the Prime Minister: Seriously, the Government needs to review its S&T, petrol rates paid to individuals using their personal vehicles on official trips, as matter of urgency. It should set a good example and take a lead to all agencies. Workers are suffocating by the skyrocketing costs.* WITH the new fuel and fertiliser prices, it costs a farmer more than double to triple the cost to produce a crop, yet the price we as farmers get is the same as three years ago. The price on certain vegetables for the public has gone up but not the price for the farmers. Agronomic board, what are you doing about it? Absolutely nothing. Another useless institution. The Namibian please investigate.Bouquets And Brickbats* ZIMBABWEANS in Namibia, thank Norman Tjombe [of the Legal Assistance Centre] for his bravery in speaking out against the Mugabe regime. At last week’s talk he was good and funny, even when he knew that the CIOs and embassy people were there.Education* MINISTRY of Education, why not introduce computer as a promotional subject? More schools have got computer laboratories, but things are just in a mess.* TO the Public Relations Officer of Education, Windhoek. Can you please tell whether a BETD teacher who specialised in English Grades 8-10 can’t teach English in Grades 5-7? I want a cross transfer to be close with my family and I was refused because of that reason. Please help. – Trudie* WE want more secondary schools here in the Outapi district. We only have one and it is too old. Please the Government must look at all sides of development.* MINISTRY of Education, please do something. We want May and June examinations. We want to make corrections for our subjects in short time. As we are part-time learners, we need to write May and June exams because November is too far.* I AM a BETD holder and I have been paying the college loan and if I skip even two months, they will send a warning letter. Why are only some paying, while others are not?* WHO are the weeds in the field of education? Some Nantu reccies are full of themselves Young, inexperienced, ambitious and mostly poor educators. Their mission to fight for some indisciplined teachers They don’t care for the learners only for salaries.* I’M a parent who has a child at Jan Jonker and people should be honest. I paid for my son and he wrote during the week. I thank the principal for his strategy, because it worked. Dear parents, let’s be wise and take responsibility for our kids. Pay your school fees and remember those are your duties.* WHY is it that most of our kids cannot read or write? Too many workshops. Too many teachers away from the classrooms for weeks on end. A waste of time and money. Most of these ideals are not implemented in most of the schools.* MINISTRY of Education, Director of Education mostly Ohangwena region! Why aren’t teachers who are still involved in sexual relationships with school learners punished seriously? It is a very bad picture in the society.* I AM sorry but I have to say it. Ministry of Education I am sick and tied of the food that you supply to government hostels. You wouldn’t even give it to your sons and daughters. We eat it because we are supposed to eat. Please do something, it effects us. And teachers are not to be blamed for taking their children to private school.* MINISTRY of Education why are you not paying low ranking officials their S & T and advance claims. Why?Please Look Into It* BANK WINDHOEK. An ATM at Shoprite Lafrenz Complex is an urgent need. Please expand your services* WHOEVER is in charge of Andara Hospital, please recruit more doctors because it took me the whole day to be seen. Health services are not supposed to be this poor, don’t you think?Disconnections* MTC please also add the contract users on 7 to 12. It will be deeply appreciated. Why can’t we use this opportunity.
