NAMIBIAN singing sensation, Shishani Vranckx has been nominated for a RFI Prix Découvertes New Artist Award.
The soul singer and songwriter was nominated for her two songs ‘Minority’ and ‘Short Term Vision’ both of which are featured on a compilation album of award nominees.
The general public can vote for the ‘Minority’ singer by logging onto www.prixdecouvertes.com/en/vote.
The votes by the general public will serve to nominate the internet users favourite artist. These votes will be added to the judges scores during the judging session which in the past has been presided over by music personalities like Youssou N’Dour and Richard Bona. The judging is scheduled to take place on 18 November.
Namibia’s Elemotho also won the award in 2012 and previous winners include Amadou and Mariam from Mali as well as artists from other countries such as Senegal, Ivory Coast and Uganda.
Angélique Kidjo, the international star from Benin, was the president of the adjudicators and according to www.english.rfi she said that the judging panel reached a unanimous decision in choosing Elemotho out of the 10 finalists.
The winner receives 10 000 euros, a tour in Africa and a concert in Paris. The winner is expected to be announced in November, shortly after the judging session.
“I am extremely proud to announce that I am one of the 10 finalists of the Radio France International Discovery,” said the Last Band Standing 2012 winner on social media.
