Shiimi now Uukwambi authority headman

BANK of Namibia governor Iipumbu Shiimi was on Saturday inaugurated as the new headman of the Uukwambi Traditional Authority’s Ontana village in the Omusati region.

Shiimi succeeds his father, Aloisius ‘Kuma’ Shiimi, who was the headman of the village, situated about 10 kilometres north of Oshakati, until he passed away in March 2014.

Chief Herman Iipumbu of Uukwambi, accompanied by his senior headmen from Onamega, Olupembana and Oshikuku districts, officiated at Shiimi’s inauguration. Omusati regional councillor for the Oshikuku constituency, Modestus Amutse also attended the ceremony.

Iipumbu urged Shiimi to lead the community of Ontana as per regulations of the Uukwambi Traditional Authority and the Traditional Authorities Act.

Accepting the office, Shiimi appealed to people of his village to be united, peaceful and compliant.

“This village and the country at large will prosper when we live in peace with one another, stay united and work together,” he said.

He said parents should raise their children properly by advising them well and ensuring that they go to school to become professionals in future.

Iipumbu handed to Shiimi, among other things, the copy of the Uukwambi Traditional Authority regulations, the Traditional Authorities Act, a walking stick and traditional hat and shirt as symbols of authority. – Nampa
