Shift Workers And Noise Levels

Shift Workers And Noise Levels

I AM a shift worker at Rössing Mine, and I, like many other shift workers at Rössing, Areva and Langer Heinrich Mine, feel that the town Swakopmund is a mining town and that other people should respect the fact that most people living and working here are either shift workers and or people on holiday.

Over weekends and most of the time during weekdays, taxis and other road users hoot and/or make a lot of noise in residential areas, without considering people sleeping or resting for their next shift or the fact that they are on holiday. I thought of getting the Municipality to put up signs in and around residential areas, asking people to keep their noise down or not to blow their vehicles’ hooters unnecessarily. In Tamariskia specifically, in the morning, some taxis that need to pick up their regular customers will come on their specific times and hoot as if the person they come to pick up does not know that someone is to come fetch them. Please consider the shift workers that came from shift at midnight and arrive at their houses at 02h00. These people are tired and need to go to work that same afternoon at 14h00 again. These shift workers are operating heavy machines in the mines and really need to be properly rested, for them to operate this equipment safely. Maybe this message also needs to be delivered at schools, so school children can also be made aware to keep their noise down. Please people, consider us.Shift WorkerVia e-mail
