MAMELODI Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile reached another milestone on Wednesday night, registering his first career 20-goals season.
With a match to spare, he has now scored one goal more than he did last season when he finished joint top scorer in the South African Premiership. The ex-Tura Magic man has also registered eight assists, to underline the growth in his game and overall importance to Sundowns’ system this term. He only managed two assists for Highlands Park last season.
The Namibian international’s match-winning brace handed the league champions a 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtic in their penultimate clash.
His first came on 11 minutes after reacting the quickest to a rebound to loop a towering header into a gaping net. The second was also with his head, glancing in a Lyle Lakay corner after the break.
Shalulile has 13 PSL strikes this season, three less than leading scorer Bradley Grobler of SuperSport United, and three off the mark he reached last season when playing for the now defunct Highlands Park.
It is uncertain if he will get to add to that tally and continue challenging for the golden boot, with the club reportedly considering fielding a fringe side for their final league encounter against Cape Town City tomorrow.
Over 38 matches this term, the sterling Brave Warriors captain has also found the back of the net three times in the CAF Champions League and on four occasions in the South African FA Cup.
In the 2019-20 season, Shalulile scored three times in the FA Cup and registered 16 goals in the PSL.
It has been a impressive season for Shalulile who is the favourite to land several top individual prizes for his exploits.
Apart from chasing top scorer status, Sha Sha is in the running for the 2020/21 KICK OFF footballer of the season, PSL footballer and player’s player of the season prizes, plus the Nedbank Cup [FA Cup] player of the tournament award.
